Oops.... I've noticed in the forum a good
explanation of "old" and "new" FD mounts.

Looks like I can use either on a Canon FTb.
-
I am looking for a "used" Canon zoom for my FTb.
I understand the "old" mount is the friction fit
metal ring (my 50mm lens) have this. I match the red dots and twist it on.

A lot of EBAY advertised FD mounts do not have
the metal ring, and some are advertised as the new
FD mount. Looks like a black ring, red dot, and a push button affair. Will these lenses work on my
FTb. How are they mounted and removed?

Also, I'm interested in the FD 75mm-200mm or the
FD 70-200mm zoom. They advertise as having a macro
feature (how does this work?).

My interest is in nature photography (forest animals, etc. plus some close ups of flowers, etc.)
will these zooms suit me?

Is the "old" FD mount better than the "new" FD mount?
thanks

Equipment is Canon FTb, FD 50mm f1.8 or f1.4
no filter
Grey sky (bright sun wash).
People posed against this background.
Their faces are darker than with disposable camera.
Facial features disappearing.
Shots taken with "circle" for aperture over
meter needle. and Shots taken with "circle" top edge
touching meter needle.
Pictures are consistently darker than with
disposable camera.
Proper film speed set. Various shutter speeds, but
all above 60.
Help. and thanks.
( I new at 35mm manual picture taking, what am I missing here?

One note: When I check my battery with the "C"
switch, the needle is a good "two circles" above the index point. Maybe the meter needle is showing more light than is acutally available.

I'm using a Canon Ftb, getting used to it and
have 50mm 1.8 S.C and a 50mm 1.4 S.S.C lenses.
I use both with a skylite cap on the front of each
lense.

My questions,
1.Do the skylites affect the picture quality or are they just for protection of the lense.
2.What is a lense hood and how does it work? How does it fit on the lense? Why do I need one.?
3.What is the best way to take a picture of the
full moon on a clear, crisp winter night (hand held).

thanks,

As a novice with a used Canon Ftb and no instruction manual, I'd like to understand how the exposure meter needle (right side of view finder) works in conjunction with the ring. The ring and needle are moved independently as I took some initial pictures mainly with the needle in its middle range of travel. Now only the needle moves as I adjust the aperture. The ring just sits in a lower right postion of the view finder ( I think it might not be working). What is normal operation of the needle and ring?

A followup on my problem with dark pictures on my FTb.

Thanks for the help so far, but....
I have the proper battery, ran the battery test
shutter speed on 1000 and ASA setting of 100.
The meter needle is 1/2 inch above the index knob on the RHS.
It's "just" above it at a ASA setting of 50 with
shutter at 1000.
So..... how do I shoot pictures and trust the
meter needle.

For ASA100 film, set the camera to ASA50?

For ASA400 film, set the camera to 200? or 350?
Or
probably just get meter needle calibrated properly
at a camera shop?
thanks for your help and suggestions.
Then maybe as the battery weakens, the camera check will work properly.
