  1. I have travelled to europe with my heavy a*s bogen tripiod in a soft bag and checked it and it was fine. I emphasize the weight because I'm actually surprised I did not have a problem (the fear was in me alone) because in the bag the damn thing feels like it could be a 12 gauge shotgun. You could always bag it and tag it and pad lock the zipper just don't lose the key or combo!
  2. Okay I know that the scale on the back doesn't really mean anything, insofar as the "auto" will measure the light coming back to the flash and shut it off when appropriate (thyristor). I know that using the soft box type attachment will give more even, balanced flash.

Can I still use any aperture I want, I notice that the shutter speed stays the same, i usually shoot on apperture priority.

Will the flash automaticaly control the output, or will I have to be constantly checking the scale on the flash and changing my apertures.

When I have used a flash on a bronica I have simply used f 8 at 125 no matter what the camera to subject distanct and everything came out fine.

Okay so how little do I know?

  3. In the bag is a quantaray tech-10 24mm 2.8 NF AF, Quataray NF AF 28-

    80mm 3.5, Nikkor 50mm AF 1.8, Sigma 70-300mm f4 DL MacroSuper, and

Sunpack flash auto 355AF Thyristor. How good are these lenses they

have been given to me and I really have not used them at all.

I was going to use the falsh on an off camera mount with an N50 and

85 1.4 at a rather large gathering of people, just an informal thing.

    So will that flash work?

  4. Thanks Loren I can appreciate what your saying. My Dad loved the art of photography as do I and being able to use this after him is a great honor. Thanks to everyone, I guess now the choice (if I'm going back to 35mm) is which film or digital camera to buy. I currently own an RB 67 pro, horseman 450 (LF), and a canon 35mm. But when it comes to nikon equipment as I've already demonstrated I know very little, a little picking around on the web should fix that! Everyone here has very supportive and informative, thank you! Don't forget to thank those in the military, and not just on the holidays, but anytime, young or old, it is beyond words what it really means to put your life on the line for complete strangers, regardless of political views it is still very special.

  5. What is "Great 'Bokeh'", excuse my ignorance...this must be a nikon thing, I've not seen that term on the large format or medium format forums! Again please excuse my ignorance I suppose I should just admit that yes I guess I'm a newbie to Nikon!

    I appreciate your help today,

  6. Oh so you wern't serious about the $50? The camera and lens where my fathers and it has been hard to use the camera since then...you know what I mean. I know he paid quit a bit for the 85 but past that I'm clueless. I would imagine that the N50 is comparable to the canon rebel, right?
  7. I have recently inherited a nikon n50 and an 85mm 1.4D IF lens. I

dont really know anything about either of these. How good are the

camera and lens? I have used either canon, mamyia or horseman now

for years! What are your thoughts, what is the 85mm of this

construction best suited for? How sharp is this 85 1.4D IF lens?

    Thank you very much.

  8. I currently have a horseman 450/le. It is heavy. I have recently

been on a trip and realized that this camera is too heavy to trek

across the landscape with. I also have an RB 67 and have used

instead when carrying the horseman is too much. This causes me some

distress because while the horseman is a great camera and is like a

special friend to me, I hate having to abandon the joy of it's use

because of its occasional prohibitivness (sp?). So I might be in the

market for a new LF camera a field camera. I have been toying with

the idea of a Toyo 45cf becuase it is light and relativley

inexpensive, or maybe a wooden camera. With this camera I would be

shooting only landscape but would like to have front rise/shift, tilt

and swing but feel like rear movements are a must. What cameras and

lenses can you offer as good options? I will start with one lens.

Price is a concern but I do have a feasible range at this time to

offer as reference. What camera/lens kits are available?

Thank you so much for your help!

  9. Alot of my negs come out with a washed out sky. Usualy it's when the

are alot of clouds in the sky. sometimes the exposure difference

does not look that great to my eye, however I must confess that I

rarely meter to check. My guesses are usualy pretty good but... At

what point should I use a Grad. ND filter? one stop difference, two

    three...?

  10. What do you think is the most common way to overcome the high initial costs of digital. I figure options are all digital 35mm (ie. canon, nikon products), medium format back, or digital back for 4x5 (very high cost in my opinion). i figure these costs vary between $2,000 to 8,000 depending on which equipment decision to accept.

  11. In your opinion how would someone who wishes to start a photographic

business make the decision regarding format and services to offer to

clients (format being the real question here). What decision

criteria would go into your assesment of the feasibility of such a

venture? Thank you very much for your help.

  12. I have found since asking that the camera was sold by Polaroid in 1948. The original list price was 89.95, per polaroid corp. The camera used a roll style polaroid film which is not currently manufactured by the company.

    Thanks foy your response,

  13. The camera is a horseman 450 (like an LE) I can compress the standards until no more and the image is almost there but still out of focus. It seems like maybe I should buy a recessed lens board and try that. It seems like I need just an inch more or so and it would focus, no room for movements but, at least infinity, thoughts

Robert what camera are using your 135 caltar with?

  14. I have a 135mm 5.6 caltar II n (purchased used, but like new)that I

have determined has an oem of rodenstock (view camera may/june

2003). I cannot focus on infinity with this lens. At 135 mm on the

rail nothing is in focus. However if I focus only inches or less

from a subject it is in focus, the bellows are racked out sometimes

but it seems like the minimum bellows extensions is about 320mm to

have a subject distance of about 6 inches in focus. It appears to be

a macro lens but it has no markings to indicate that. Could the

previous owner have reversed the lens elements? The previous owner

used the lens for jewerly product photography so if it is a macro

lens it would make sense. Can someone please explain...

  15. Alex I have had the same problem and many others with my 550 pola. holder. All I can say is that soaking my roller assembly in hot water for about an hour solved the problem. I have had other problems resulting from faulty film packs.
