I know I get flack for this, but I always thought that it would be nice to have a feature in Lightroom where one could open a file RAW or other image file individually without going through the import\export hoopla.

Silly me! I had the impresion that a borderless print was the goal.

"Then I copy the image on top of this new blank image(in Photoshop as a new layer)".
Just out of curiosity. What is the difference of having a layer over the background or printing a flattened copy. I am asking, because I know that some software has to be “tricked” to do what you want it to do.
Thanks,

It might worth a try. Copy and open an existing JPG file, size up to match the TIFF file's size exactly. Delete all pixels and copy/paste the TIFF pixels into the temporary file and just save (not saveas). See if that works.
Make sure all dimensions, bit depth and profiles are the same.
Sometime weird solutions work!

It would be nice if one could open, edit and save a DNG file as a one-off w/out the import/export nonsense. Just as an option though.

If shipping costs are not an issue do try Westcoast Imaging http://www.westcoastimaging.com/
They give you full control over your color management.

Also don’t forget the fact that not all printers are capable reproducing all colors properly. In my personal experience I don’t seem to have gamut issues w/ my Epson 3800.

However, I once saw two identical images (same photographer, same size prints) exhibited of a Yosemite meadow w/ a lot of green. One was printed on Lightjet the other on an Epson. The Epson had beautiful vibrant greens, but the mighty Lightjet example showing sick looking bottle green. When I used to send out my files converted to Calypso Imaging’s excellent profiles I used to have a hell of a time matching greens. No more!

Just for the record the late Calypso Imaging had a 100% closed loop color management w/ profiles for all types of paper.

Although this is a weird fix, I've heard that if the platters are stuck and you place the HD on a hard smooth surface and give it a few vigorous spins they might loosen up. As a last resort this might worth a try.

What really baffles me that that I DID start Photoshop CS6 many times and still cannot open RAW files by right clicking and selecting “Open in Camera Raw…” All my Photoshop related associations are set to CS6, still no cigar. But if I select one or more images and double click or hit return within Bridge they all do “Open in Camera Raw…” as they should. This is a crazy nonsense.

Mini Bridge doesn’t have a problem to open anything in Photoshop, Camera Raw, or the Default Application which is of course for CS6 RAW.

-

Can some shed light how to solve this ridiculous problem:

With PS6 Bridge I can open RAW files by double clicking on them, but not when I right click and want to open any file in PS RAW. Of course, there is no problem w/ RAW files (when double clicking), but if I want to open a *.tiff then I have to specify PS RAW otherwise it opens up in straight PS. The strangest thing that I can open the same *.tiff within the Mini Bridge.
I also cannot apply previous RAW edits to other files within Bridge.

As a lot of you are familiar with this message:

“Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw Editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.”

To me this is a bit cryptic. What heck does this mean? How can I solve it?

I heard somewhere that this props up where there were previous PS installations, mainly CS5.

Anyone has any real solutions?

Thank you,

Rats! But thank you. Perhaps they'll change it later...

Is there a way to change the CS6 RAW interface to match the actual Photoshop/Bridge Dark theme? I know that there is no option in the RAW Preferences, but would there be an add-on?
I know this is silly, but I grew fond of this somber look. Now, I could use Lightroom 4, but I don’t feel like dealing w/ that Import/Export business. Too bad that Lightroom doesn’t have an option to deal w/ standalone *.DNG files (Just open, edit & save). Or is there?

Thanks,

I might be wrong, but isn't the extension for actions *.atn ? and not *.atn or *.act

Rodeo Joe,

Let me a vent a bit. These days a lot of things are senseless. Windows 7’s two sets of Program Directories, two sets of System32 (SysWOW64), etc.
It makes a bit of a sense, NOT: System32 handles 64-bit programs, the SysWOW64 32-bit ones!?! Huh?!?

Also I cannot understand why Adobe took out the preview image from CS6. It is very easy to overwrite an image if you don’t see what it looks like. But wait, there is Mini Bridge that cannot function until the Main Bridge is launched!
Adobe just could have copied the ACDSee v3.0 (1999) interface where you can toggle easily between the image itself or a view of the thumbnails in the directory, switch directories, etc.
Then I cannot open a TIFF image in PS RAW from Bridge, I get a stupid note why is that, but I can open it from the Mini Bridge.
Oh and Lightroom! Fantastic program, but it is too cumbersome to import/export all the time. Brrrrr! It could just deal with DNG files as well, like all decent RAW editing programs. If you want to deal with catalogs, knock yourself out, but it would be nice to have choices.

My question came about, because somebody (with a Mac) solved his dark print problem by deleting duplicate profiles. Seems like duplicating is an Apple problem as well.

I just fixed my printer, but looks like after each Windows update I have to see if I have to reinstall the printer drivers again and again….

Sorry, I feel better now,

Thanks Dan,
I do/did have problems with very dark prints.
So you say that paper profiles like the 3800 MC Luster.icm should only be in:
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
How about the other Epson paper profiles like the Pro38 series? Should I delete all those in the other directories?

Color Profile Abundance in a PC (not a Mac)

I’ve just noticed that there are too many Color Profile directories on my computer. I just wonder if it is healthy to have information repeated at all these places.

I know for a fact that I only placed my paper profile; 3800 MC Luster.icm into
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
at one time only, but now I have them all over the place.

Is this normal with the 64-bit Windows 7?

These are the Directories:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

For example this profile is present in all three directories; Pro38 PLPP.icm What if one of the profiles is corrupted and the printer happens to pick that one?

I think this is crazy to have these profiles with different dates and sizes all over the place.

Any ideas?

Andrew,

The original driver (the one that came w/ the printer) always worked in old XP, Windows 7 and Windows 7’s XP-Mode.

About 6-8 weeks ago the image cutoff problem appeared out of the blue and nothing seemed to fix it (even new drivers from Epson, etc.)
I haven’t tried the uninstall-reinstall. Next time I’ll do that.

Then a week or so ago I had this “Dark Print” problem in Windows 7 and also in the Windows 7’s XP-Mode.

I went back a few weeks w/ the restore, reinstalled the driver from the old CD and now all is well. EXCEPT I haven’t tried for the image cut-off in Windows 7. Out of curiosity I will, but I am sick of it.

Mac,

I didn’t have image cutoff problem for a long time. It might have been caused by an update, although I am very careful what I let to install. Something must have snuck by.

Have a nice weekend, GS

Rodeo Joe,

In a weird way that might have happened. Luckily it is off now, but I'll look into it. Most frustrating.

Thanks,

Oh Yes, I am innocent. I bought the Windows 7 Pro software legally and I only have it on one machine.
I built the box in January and the only problem I had so far is an update triggered printer driver corruption a few days ago that I fixed.

I do have a wireless HP Envy printer that is off most of the time. This particular PC doesn’t have wireless and the HP printer is not installed on it.
The “Chicken Shriek” warning (All white box w/ a red speaker and a red sideways Chevron to change the size) was about the Epson 3800 Pro printer connection although I did have that connection.

The most disturbing was that even after I turned the warning notice off the sound still continued even after a reboot. I couldn’t find the source of the beep. It was the most annoying sound. I don’t know what agenda the software designers have to terrorize people.

If anyone is still watching.

Status report:
Printing from old XP box is perfect, but I never had any problems there.

I restored the PC to a few weeks back and reinstalled the printer and now I can print normally as before in the XP_Mode. It looks like the so-called updates corrupted the drivers.

I haven’t tried to print from W7 straight, since none of my previous attempts were able to fix my cut off problem. I’ve given up on that.

Good point Tom. I restored the PC yesterday to a month ago, but I'll look again for HP fluff.
Did anyone have this alarm come on? There seemed to be no way to shut it off. Where should I look for it if there is a next time?

-

As I come to think of it, sometimes an HP message comes on about wanting to update something. If I remember correctly I didn't let it happen, because I don't have any HP stuff.

DXO Viewpoint emulation
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted
Does anyone know of a Photoshop based solution to duplicate the effects of DXO Viewpoint's volume deformation routine?
That is to restore the wide angle caused proportions at the edge regions of the image.
It would be wonderful if any of could point me to the right direction.
Thanks!
