  3. I have just found the news bellow at a Japanese website, and would

like to inform you in this forum.

"Sakai Special Camera MFG. CO. LTD, the manufacturer of TOYO VIEW and

TOYO FIELD closed their business on October 31, 2002. A new company,

Sakai Machine & Tools inc. is taking over the operations of sales and

    service of TOYO cameras."

There is no clear description whether the new company will develop

new TOYO cameras in the future. The announcement said just sales and

service operations to be taken over by the new company.

  4. Discussions here are very interesting, but I don't think data source is solid. I'm working at a manufacturer (not Canon) and am in charge of long term product strategy and planning. We never leak long term plan to dealers, even not to sales division inside the company and we let any rumor as it goes. But it should be true, as the previous post mentioned, Canon will not need to update EOS-1V for years and engineers are working for other cameras today. It does not mean Canon has decided to produce no more pro film cameras in the future.

As to a "self-proclaimed" Canon's engineer emerging in a Japanese forum, they are busy on developing Kiss (Rebel) Digital and EOS-1Dx. So 1Ds will soon be old, as is always the case with digital cam. And, I guess Kiss 5 LCD layout should be designed not for a big indicator of film camera but for a viewer of digital cam. It's just for your info.

  5. Everyone might misunderstand TOYO 45CF. TOYO explains it's body construction as follows in TOYO's web-site.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new TOYO 45CF (TOYO 45A board version) / 45CFL (Linhof board version). We have realized light weight by applying plastic to the body parts, but we use metals to all the parts where rigidity is required.

  6. The later version of 45A has universal back but the earlier version 45A does not. Neither of 45A has revolving back (it was optional). Youfd better check the back of used one youfve found, as you may have difficulties to use roll film holder without universal back.

I have 45A with universal back and am very happy with it.

  7. Output of alkaline AA battery is initially 1.5V but is continuously decreasing as it being discharged and finally down to 0.9V. Shortly after starting discharge, output of alkaline battery falls bellow 1.2V. Ni-MH (and Ni-Cd), on the other hand, has 1.45+-V output initially and soon falls to 1.2V and keeps 1.2V till its life end. Actually alkaline has lower voltage than Ni-MH in the real usage. So Ni-MH should have no problem in terms of low voltage.

I enjoy Ni-MH with my EOS3 and BP-E1, and have had no problem for years.

  8. I agree with the above three gentlemen, and I put BP-E1 battery pack instead of PB-E2 for landscape work to save weight and for capability of using AA batteries. BP-E1 can hold 4 AA batteries and 2CR5 lithium together. When AA batteries come to dead, all you need is just to turn the switch to 2CR5 and you can continue taking photos.
