  1. If one of the principals may add some commentary.....

Matt-She was more than pleased, and surprised to. And to think my first thoughts for our 40th was to get her a horse!

Todd-I sincerly doubt there will ever be a color emulsion that surpasses the old Kodachrome. In that these were shot in 64', it was Kodachrome II. I husband the 40 rolls of K-25 I have left in the freezer carefully. Down to only 1400+ images left.

Bruce-Close thinking it was "Uncle Bob". Actually it was my Uncle Bill. Can't recall seeing him ever use a meter.

And Marc, it ain't over! Sheila found five prints and one more chrome slide she wants in the album. You'll be happy to know these are all in good shape though.

    Thanks again,

    Jerry

  2. More photons in the 0.58 v the 0.85?

Not a physicist so can't comment on that. However, in that the 0.58 takes in a larger percentage of the light source (be it sky or interior lighting) due to its field of view I can see how it would appear brighter.

Whether it transmits more light to the eye (as in lens speed) is really the pertinant question. That I tend to doubt.

  3. Detroit metro area has Adrays (Troy, Dearborn, and Canton). They always seem to have a decent selection of new equipment, although certainly not "one of everything in the catalog".

Not much "used" though. I think that stuff either goes to customers who have expressed "wants' for items or auction on the net.

Close by in Ann Arbor there is Big Georges Appliances. Fairly well stocked and not too many places where you can get a Leica and a washing machine. (Big Georges and Adrays in Dearborn under the same roof).

  4. Antonio,

First thanks to Godfrey for adding that once the shutter is cocked, the meter circuit is activated only when the film advance arm is slightly away from the body. I forgot to add that.

If you don't have the equipment to test the battery, you may want to open the battery compartment and check for corrosion. If some is there, sometimes the meter will come to life by removing it. A small needle, tooth pick, or other small object can scrap it off. Careful with the wires in the camera body.

The 40 f/2 is one of the great bargain Leitz lenses.

If you solve the meter problem without sending it in for a CLA, you may want to have the shutter speeds, particularly the slow speeds, checked for accuracy.

  5. Antonio,

Set the proper speed for the film that you are using. This is set by turning the silver dial with raised ridges that is in the center of the shutter speed dial.

Cock the camera. The meter arm swings into the light path from its stored position for a TTL reading. (make sure lens cap is off.)

Rotate aperature dial to match needle in VF to the open slot in right side of VF.

No needle movement? Check battery by depressing small silver button located at about 5 o'clock as you view the face of the camera.

Still no meter movement? Try a new battery.

Still no movement? Pack and ship to DAG or Sherry for repair. May as well get a CLA while you're at it. The newest CLs are almost 30 years old.

  6. I have made do with two Kodak Carousels in the past 40+ with little

to no problems. The first was one of the originals (as in made of

cast iron or the equivalent) with my current one an Ektagraphic

IIIATS, mounting a 60mm (sticker on barrel says 57.1) Schneider PC

Cinelux AV MC. I really can't complain about the set-up.

However, in one of the area pawn shops, I ran across a Pradolux RT

300, with a Colorplan f/2.5 90mm (Portugal). While in LN condition,

it has to be almost 30 years old as the Model/Serial plate (300-000,

and 23 0r 24,000 or so) Notes that it is not only E. Leitz but when

they were in Rockleigh, NJ. Included is an IB, for a "RT300/AV.

Now before anyone kicks me to the archives, I've been there and still

have some questions as some of the info therein appears to be

    conflicting.

The main question surrounds the "Carousel" type trays. Will this

projector accept regulation 80/140 Kodak trays, or only

Carousel "type" trays made by Leitz/Leica?

Several posts in the archives centered on jamming with 140 trays,

while others appeared to have no problems. Likewise, many posts

mention balky AF performance. Are these experiences random, or

general given the age of such units? To use an old flyers adage, are

they "Hanger Queens" and more importantly are they repairable

    currently?

Are Pradoluxes of this vintage rebadged Kodak products or made by

    Leitz?

While the comments on the Colorplan were generally favorable, it had

its share of detractors. Were the latter just picky, or is somethig

like a Navitar a better performer.

Finally, what is a fair price for this set-up? Owner asked $425, but

has anyone had any recent experience with this combination?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jerry

  7. Mike,

Most of the time when I go out with two bodies, the CL is the second and generally used with the 24 ASPH and external finder.

Obviously DOF isn't much of a concern that lens, but I find it works fine with no handling problems.

Don't have a 35 Lux/ASPH, but I suspect there would be no problem.

    Best,

    Jerry
