1.
Actually this is a discussion i wish to take part in. I have read a comment somewhere on this forum that stated the old MF lenses have a specific 'signature' one has to live with when using on Dslr.
This is the only true aspect in this thread, you either adore the lens on a certain body or you don't!
This comment also means any review of a MF lens is a fluke in terms of quality. I must say i have a beater 28/2.8 Ais that has been used as much because it is THAT good!
Ive also read a comment here somewhere clearly stating ART is a subject that has to be seen and not measured......
Kindest regards, Henk

  2. In addition,

I dont find them bad, you should show what these people are about, their love for eachother, fun and games, their quircks and naggs or whatever you call them. Just as long as you have fun with them, they will have fun too, and that will show, trust me...

With fast film and fast lenses youll do much better then with flash, its too much awkwardness for people who are not used to being around handicapped people.

And yes, all people who think these pictures should be deleted are just feeling awkward and confrontated with something they would rather not know or see...

For that a cheer mate, dont let em keep you from doing anything you like.....

    Greetings,

  3. Robert,

You are missing the slapstick aspect of this kind of photography(check Diane Arbus for example). If you love the joy and lust for life these people have, SHOW THAT DAMMIT! Flash is -unless you learn to use it really well- reducing these kind of images to nothing but, well... ugly people.

Someone close to me has a little sister with Down syndrome, so i am a bit sensitive to this subject, no personal stuff or whatever intended.....

    Greetings,

  4. Hi Eric,

I think Rob's pricing is a bit on the high side on the 28 and 80, not much though.

Look trough the 80 very carefully with a flashlight and also look if the lens looks 'spaced out' trough the finder. I have seen one sample and it had a displaced element, which offcourse can be repaired, but still. I dont know any picture samples of this lens but it has an excellent rep. If all is well i would consider getting a Leicaflex SL or SL2 instead of the R3.

I use the canadian 50 cron ALOT, i personally think its better then the recent ones, the 90 Elmarit is also very good IMO, either version of it. Leica R equipment is a steal at the moment, good hunting ;).

    Greetings,

  5. Any camera or instrument or paint or pen will do for me i think... allthough im a spoiled brat ;)P

To quote Duane Michaels: "I am an expressionist and by that I mean I'm not a photographer or a writer or a painter or a tap dancer, but rather someone who expresses himself according to his needs".

Is that an answer to your question Travis?

    Greetings,

  6. Winogrand is a master of the moment but not in the way thought off by Matt. I think Winogrand would prefer to document peoples expressions in the crowd rather then the activity itself. Like he did in the Texas state fair.

Its still a nice shot though, why would you compare it to Winogrands work?

    Greetings,

  7. A 'neat' version of the same image, without messing with the levels too much. I personally prefer the grindy version but i would be glad to hear what you think. My 'grind and grunch' edits get murdered on the critique forum, im kind of looking for how much people in general think is acceptable in this respect but seem to overdo it all the time. Any ideas? Greetings,
0066r9-14649984.jpg.2de64986293f0898baa0da7c11c9d40a.jpg

  8. Alex,

Thanks for the thoughtfull suggestion. I really should learn how to edit scanned images better....

At the moment i am trying to 'tune' an image according to its content. I do fail at this constantly, but sometimes it adds to the 'clarity' of an images content. I hope that in this way i can reduce darkroom time by scanning an image and editing it digitally to generate ideas for wet printing.

    Greetings,

  9. Thanks ppl. I have examined the negative and it is indeed his funky shirt looking like a finger. The two people(one is black) behind him are talking about something and they were drinking beer(the cans). The man scratching his neck wears socks in his sandals....

I have had the 300/4.5 Ai Nikkor and also used the 300/4.5 ED/IF Ais. It non-ED has color abberations which get reasonable at f11 (example above is at f5.6) or so. The ED versions do have the same color fringing, but to a lesser degree, wide-open performance is still fairly equal in my opinion, if you handhold both lenses they are equal in my opinion, i even favour the Ai a bit over the Ais because it handles better and i get less 'shaken not stirred' images. The TC-200 or TC-201 isnt a very bright idea, it looks quite weird, check the first few images in this folder (all from the 300/4.5 Ai). Greetings,

  11. Hmm, weird thinking about this. I have no regrets whatsoever about selling any 35mm stuff, i seem to get better stuff in return. When it comes to MF im an emotional sob though. My 'Blad with 120 Planar-s still hunts me in my dreams and whenever i think about my 'Fat Bertha' Pentax 6x7 with 45/4 i always look at my camera cabinet with a feeling it is totally empty.... Maybe i simply cant handle not having an MF camera in my life....
