Ok, Jeff must have used inches, although 24x30 and 10x15 are very common metric dimensions for prints. Sorry.

That doesn't sound right. Quoting Thom Hogan's review:
-- snip--
I should probably repeat something I've been saying (and writing) for quite some time now: if you can't get good quality images at the maximum size of a desktop inkjet printer (that would be 13x19") with the current crop of 6mp and 10mp cameras, it's not the camera that's the problem. That applies here. I have no problems getting very nice prints at 13x19" with my S5 Pro.
--snip--
No, I don't have personal experience with S5, but I just happened to be doing some background checking on it. Somehow the dynamic range sounds so attractive.

GX100 does indeed remember most settings after power off - power on cycle. This includes focus mode (snap, infinity, manual, auto...), EV compensation, mode (B&W), ISO setting etc. No need to use user setting (MY1, MY2) for this. Zoom setting is reset to 24mm equivalent, but that can be overridden using user settings (just save e.g. 50mm as default value for MY1). Very convenient, in my opinion.

What you shoot is important, not where you do it. I don't think anyone can tell you what you should bring with you. It all depends on you subject matter and how much you equipment you want to carry with you.
But if you still want my opinion, I live in Europe and usually I'm happy with fast 35 or 50mm lenses and Tri-X 400. YMMV.

The MB-D200 battery grip allows use of AA batteries.

I'm using Scan Dual III for B&W on an G4 iBook with Vuescan. Works fine except occasional (rare) USB hangs and the quality is quite good. I have no experience with Scan Dual IV, so I cannot compare them.

Hi,
I've been looking for a A3 printer for primarily B&W printing (with
some colour printing as well). Although Epson dominates the market and
internet forums, the R2400 is too expensive for me and R1800 seems to
be optimised for colour printing. HP 8750 seems like a perfect tool
with 3 black inks and a decent price. However, I've read comments that
it is (more or less) limited to HP papers only. I wonder why? Is it
just a lack of paper profiles or is there something special about HP
inks? Other views (cost of use, print permanence, other printer
alternatives etc) are also welcome. Or would R1800 do the job as well?

I had a similar problem with my F100 and SB-28. The fault was in the camera body,
hotshoe was slightly loose and touching the flash sometimes caused it to fire.

Thank's for your responses.
I am aware of the old rule-of-thumb about the reciprocal of focal length. In my
experience, rangefinders & 35mm lenses (only focal length I have expreience with) seem
to defy that rule but probably that's just the missing mirror slap. I have usually been
satisfied with exposures at 1/15 and sometimes even with 1/8 (better than no picture at
all) so I guess I'm not that obsessed with absolute sharpness. Subject movement is
obviously a separate matter.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that it's LTM/M that I'm talking about. With an SLR I
prefer 1/90 with a 85mm lens.

Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a short tele, i.e. 90mm most likely (75 'cron and 'lux are just
too expensive for me). One important application would be available light (=window lit)
portraits, where I often seem to end up with exposures around 1/30@f/2.8. I'm wondering
whether to go for a Summicron or Tele-Elmarit (again, 'lux is too expensive). Price is
obviously one issue, but I'm also unsure whether it is possible to get sharp enough
pictures with a short tele at such shutter speeds. Any comments/recommendations?

Henrik

Vienna 2004. Sorry, no Leica.

Hi,
I wonder if the diaphragm of AF-D 85/1.8 lens should work in the
following way. When the lens is mounted on camera, the diaphragm is
fully open only when aperture ring is set to f/1.8. When it is closed,
the diaphragm stays at about f/2 position. If not, this obviously
results in exposure error.

I'm wondering about the brand new Nikon Coolpix 5400 that I just
received. The LCD monitor has quite a few (closer to ten) dead/hot
pixels. I know they don't affect the resulting picture quality, but
they're annoying enough as such. Does anyone have any idea/experience
what the quality control of Nikon thinks about them? Is this normal
for the monitor?
