I see your point on the cropping. However, I don't want to increase the impact of the cars on the composition by making them larger in the crop. I think they'll be more noticeable after a crop in.

cropping gives a great canopy feeling. the petals have a 'coiffed' feeling, as though they were styled into place. great color, too.

great shot. wonderful feeling. i normally don't tell people what should be taken out, because images aren't always planned and diagrammed before they're taken, but, the vertical frames created by the walls on either side give a slight claustrophobic feeling- which isn't all that bad, because that very feeling makes be feel like i am in the shot. that being said, i wonder how the image might 'open up' if they were cropped out (preferably without eliminating the second floor of the bldg.)

it is a study of an object. any object. it could be mundane and boring, and well, it could be your pet cat. generally a study helps one see things differently after a contemplative look from various angles, using various tools, using differing light set ups, etc, etc....
that would be the "why".

sorry, but i don't really like photoshop plug-in filters applied to a photograph. i dont think they belong on photo.net. this image has a place elsewhere, but not here.

great cropping. suggests a before and after to me [without actually reading the title]. actually, the division is more than a metaphor, it literally divides the new life from the everyday life.

I wish I didnt have the hot spot on the reflector. Should the spot
be painted in lightly with texture from the other one [assuming it's
done successfully] with a cloning technique in Photoshop?

This is the original image commented on.

I thought that these images might have more punch in black and white. The blue tones are interesting as a study, but there isn't much drama with the color. So, I have decided to post some black and whites on some of these images.

I totally agree. I wanna go back and reshoot with reflectors and soften the light.

I have to say that I like the lighting the most. It feels very vibrant even thought the there are some wash-outs. The hightlights in the curls are handled nicely.

photo was taken through passenger side window of moving car

the low angle of light is giving you good textures across the floor. i might have cropped out some of the black wall on the left. this may pull the viewer into the shot more. as it is now, it feels more like the viewer is outside the room looking in, experiencing this dark space less than if they were 'in' it. great shot. i really like the dramatic darks.

I saw the undulation of the cabling and had to take a photo. I saw in it something organic that seems to provide for, or support this huge mechanical crane in a life-giving way.
it's a juxtaposition, is what it is... ;)

interesting collection of shapes. good eye to see this detail from the platform. intriguing how the mirror seems to open up into another world. the reflected image has depth and perspective that i can look into, while the wall is flat 'superficial'. the little sliver bottom left bothers me, i think i'd crop it out.

i love detailes of manmade structures decaying. the lighing feels quite flat, making it less of a real, 3D thing and more of a 2D texture.
-
what a great subject. i love happening upon such abandoned houses. what strikes me is the 'normal composition' (ie: straight on, no exaggerated angles, etc...) for a house that is not 'normal'.
-
lovely scene. i am struck by the clouds.

I was just following my wife's little brother around on the beach
while he ran into and out of the surf.

I guess this is pretty standard humor. I didn't know I had this until I got home and downloaded the memory card. I was hanging the camera out the window of the passenger side of the car as we drove down the street. I shot as I saw people. I didn't, however, see this guy. I just knew people would be in the laundry as we passed by.
- more lucky than talented

Yes, I agree. I like the movement. There's no reason not to. I can catch glimpses of the face in the central character to satisfy my eye's need to rest on a detail. It's feeling very festive, but that is stating the obvious.

well, i was just walking down the street and saw a woman gesturing with her
hands while talking to the butcher. the shot i wanted got away while i looked
for the camera. i got this instead.

wow. this photo now feels like it came from a professional studio compared to the original. amazing what cropping and tinting can do for one's career... ;)

Do the boots seem dis-embodied? I know with my composition, there's
no body to go with the feet, but this allows for the anonymity of the
subject. I believe it supports the spiritual nature of the shot, by
respecting this person's moment.
