Extreme weather event! The figure on the cliff top gives a really useful sense of proportion in what's going on here. Wonderful image!!

  1. Discovered your work in a recent edition of a monthly photography magazine and tracked you down on photo.net. This is a wonderful photograph which shows the viewer much that they do not see for themselves. It's truly extraordinary, almost extraterrestial in my opinion. Keep up the great work - it's inspired and inspirational at the same time.

Enjoyed the rant as well - I'm sure a lot of people agree with you about shallow tv and futile politics.

    Best regards!

Jeff, This is stunning. The three horizontal bands of the composition are interesting. But I do wonder about the bottom fifth of the picture. If there were some larger piece of foreground interest (eg driftwood) I think you might get away with the composition as it stands. However, the small object which sits there at the moment breaks up the mood of the picture above it, and niggles somewhat becoming more of a distraction rather than adding value. I think I would opt to crop it out. But a beautiful photo all the same.

When I first looked at this, I thought you had PS'ed the texture in, but looking at the other "mud" pics I guess you dunked your model in the mud. I was thinking that perhaps a hint of blurring round the border between the eyelinds and the mudpack might help smooth out the transition, but that's just a thought. Otherwise very interesting and disturbing pic. Look forward to seeing the rest of the series. Brian

    Mont Blanc

Hi Momo, Thanks for your comments and for posting your own version. At the time, the sky was actually pretty colourless - no clouds to catch the light of the setting sun. So as you rightly spotted, something had to be done with the sky. I added a mild filter from Nik Color Efex to bring in some colour, and I suppose in the end it's just a question of taste. But I like your version, however it just seems a little bit too bright for the scene as I remember it. I have some more shots from the same day, and will put them up in due course. Would make an interesting tryptich I suspect. Best regards, Brian

    Atmospheric Luzern

Taken this morning on a Sunday trip to Luzern. Despite a promising weather forecast, a

heavy sky made for interesting photographic conditions, and enhanced this shot of the old

town. Grateful for any comments. Thank you. Brian

Thanks for those comments. The sky ws unformtunately almost totally featureless, but the Alpengluehen effect was magical.

    Lake Gruyere

Taken a few months ago when winter still had a solid grip. The lake is obviously in the middle

ground, but frozen over and covered with snow. Grateful for any thoughts/encouragement.

    Thank you. Brian
