  1. Have you checked with B&H or Adorama? Neewer and Godox both make Bowens adapter rings.

Everything I've seen is for Bowens S-type, not L type. I'm not sure of any interchangeability using Balcar rings either, although they may work, or maybe not ... i dont have any laying around to test... same for Alienbees, in web pictures they "sort of" look the same but if they are not 6" (153mm-ish) they likely wont work.... This is so frustrating, there are so many of these strobes still in service, but nothing left for modifiers!

  2. Stage 5.75 is NO FUN... After 22+ years of photography I am deep within stage 5 and only beginning to emerge into the light-and-breathing-room of stage 6.

A have to agree, i ENVY the idiots of stage one. Some of my simplest and most 'pleasant" pictures were from stage 1. A few even shot on an instamatic 126 cartridge with the tiniest little optic imaginable.

Nowadays the 'Blad with an 80mm is putting me to work. Its a real eye opener and nothing i see is quite right.

  3. Ah yes, this is true. Nice to hear from you Q.G.

You are indeed right. But what about "etiquette"?? How dare you post a link to a resource that "MIGHT" be (in some way?) competitive with the Photo.net content. If Dirk was running Photo.net he would have just kicked and banned you from ever participating in the Photo.net boards. (without even so much as a single email, note, warning or such)

And this, in and of itself, speaks volumes about the character of the individual.

Regardless, the "list" is the measuring stick to which all lessor web resources (mine and dirks both) should be measured against. In this regard we both have a tall order to fill. But the goal is not net-supremacy, not even slightly, the goal is to provide a resource option that some may choose over others to add to the richness and diversity of the net.

    A home for everyone!

  4. Stop what Dirk? Defending strange and paranoid statements?

Your site is good, but I see so much more potential... that is why i created pro. Simple.

I have invested very little time into the site so far, but do have greater plans. I hope you also do. As it is, I am pleased with the initial results of my limited investment of time so far, and excited about what the future holds when i have the opportunity to develop the site further very soon.

In the meantime, I'll look forward to reading your next slyly-loaded passive-agressive wolf-in-sheeps clothing response. They are all quite entertaining!

  5. Dirk, it sounds as though you are throwing a temper tantrum. You refuse do believe that more than "2 or 3 friends" of mine were dissatisfied with your forums, (or fan page).. You can believe that if you wish, but it doesnt serve the needs of the community very effectively to hold on to that assumption with such blindered bias.

Additionally, you feel i have no right to share my opinion on your forum. That speaks volumes in itself. Additionally, the fact that you will ban anyone who gives such an opinion, without even so much as a friendly warning speak equally of your maturity.

I simply ask those readers who care to have some variety in what the web offers to check out your site (your cookie-cutter generic websites actually) www.hasselbladinfo.com... and ll the other camerainfo.com sites you run, and then take a look at www.hasselbladpro.com.. unless youve changed the whole layout and structure of your entuire site i find it hard to believe i am "copying" what you have. Competition is good. Deal with it and grow up please. Some may like your site better, others may like mine, or someone else.

But it is my opinion, shared by "MANY" that yours is lacking in many areas. I have no interest in creating a website for every manufacturer of camera, nikon, minolta, pentax, lieca, canon, etc etc, you can do that, but this limits your time, devotion and overall effort invested into EACH. I do not have this dilemma.

And for the time being, you still have much more traffic. Enjoy it, and take a chill-pill.

  6. "fair play"?

HA! That is laughable. I was kicked, banned and locked out of the (yourcameramfrname)info.com site for hasselblad just for posting a note telling people about my site. Never even contacted once to discuss before being banned. Not very "fair" if you ask me. Im flexible. Now, as far as copying? Well, excuse me, but you didnt invent the hasselblad model, lenses or accessories, so claiming i am copying your "structure" is a bit pious. Personally, Im using much better software, adding in much more flexibility, and most of all, listening to suggestions and the needs of many hasselblad owners with whom ive talked to.

Additionally, I am no lone mercenary out to destroy your *info.com website(s), You deleted all diseenting posts regarding problems many were having with your blad site, and as they voiced their opinions, several of us discussed the desire to have a better site. I stepped up to the plate (and since i did not do this in "stealth" i was kicked and benned from your site. Real Fair.

    Pretty Lame actually.

  7. But we MUST be very careful in some tradename spellings...

Componon and Componar ...NOT the same animal! (is there a Componan?)

    Trans-Atlantic ill-rubbings of my own..

Colour -vs- Color (I pick Color!)

    Humour -vs- Humor! yep.

Arse -vs- A s s (this one really chaps my hide!) there is no "arrrrr" in a s s! (shallow American I am!)

and of course we musn't (?) forget:

The northeast USA has some of the most warped and compacted mispronunciations in all of English.

Go to Massachusetts and ask for directions to "Worchester" if you are saying "Wor-ses-ter" you will be laughed at... if you think you are keen and pronounce it "Wor-ster" they will still look at you puzzled.. Pronounce it yet again as "Wer-ster" and they will know you are from other "pahts" of the country. Alas, the correct pronunciation is: "Woo-stah"

Pretty screwed up if you ask me. And the English in UK have one up on us in Leistershire? or is it Leicestershire, or the ultimate agony.. Worchestershire. ("Werstersheer")

    Ugh!

  8. Thanks! Wow, lots of suggestions. That is the dilemma, I'm trying to keep the navigation fast and uncluttered, but, as youve thoroughly stated, there are indeed a large variety of model... and a few that I havnt yet added.

I agree about keeping the "vintage / ancient" models separate from the newer ones... I just wanted to get some feedback on that to confirm my gut instinct (to keep them separate)... Again, this is where your feedback will help form the site into what you really feel is "correct" and proper.

I will work on some of the "re-organisation" of the forums this weekend. Again, thanks for the suggestions!

  9. Just a heads up, things are coming along nicely at the new site.... (www.hasselbladpro.com)... Some new visual dvelopments, and some great new members have helped kickstart the whole thing... As good as I could have hoped for at such an early stage (not even 2 weeks old!)...

As was discussed, I don't plan on "replacing" what Photo.net has, but to quite clearly "supplement" it.. with a great 'Blad community.

Check it out and see what we've done in only 2 weeks!

  10. Yikes! Guys, Im sorry to have offended the Photo.net lovers.. I am also a lover of everything that is Photo.net... I have learned much and enjoyed the highly diverse offerings of this site. It is not Photo.net that I was referring to, not photo.net that i am trying to "replace" or "compete" with. Nonetheless, the problem is and remains, if there is one nagging problem with photo.net, it is that (as was mentioned) this is not a 'Blad specific community. It is a photography-wide community, far-ranging and reaching, from silver-halide sea-to-shining digital sea.... and as such, there is much to be lost in trying to cover as many bases as possible.

www.hasselbladpro.com was an answer to a voiced need, and a recognition that yes, indeed, many hasselblad owners felt a new site that answered their needs more personally, and more specifically, would be a welcome change.

As for "personal information"? What is it you do not want to submit? There is nothing asked on registration that could be used maliciously except your email address. But then again, these things tend to separate the "community" from the "sterility" of photo.net. Tell me what you dont want to "give-out" and I will consider that, directly, and perhaps adjust the registration process to better suit your own tastes. This is what I mean when i say the site is very close to the users and members who utilize it. Not a huge corporate monstrosity maintained by a few office lackies who have too many pots on the fire...

As far as dissenters and supporters, its all fine by me. I'll take what I can get. Regardless, there is so much potential I am working with already, it is difficult to decide where to start. I am in the process of opening up the Gallery, and posting a photo is as easy as anyone could ask. The site is less than 1 week old yet, and already i am beginning to see it develop.. its an infant of a site... but with so much potential!

Of course there is no way i could ever take away from Photo.net. It is huge. The tiny dent i might make would only benefit Hasselblad owners and enthusiasts, and do no harm to the success of photo.net.

Finally, I invite this kind of debate and questioning. It is my DIRECT response to these concerns of us 'Blad users that will be reflected in my site. Keep the critiques coming and I will do my best to respond to them.

Thanks again, and thanks to those of you who have already shown great support, both publicly and privately!

    Regards,

  11. Just wanted to say hi to the list. After consultation with several

Hasselblad Owners, I concluded there WAS a very REAL need for a new

User-oriented (and 'Blad-User created!) Hasselblad website. Please

help establish this new web resource by regsitering today (for free,

of course) and posting anything of interest relating to these fine

    cameras on the message boards.

I have many larger plans for the site, free email addresses,

contests, giveaways, exhibits, ect.. Additionally, no personal

information is given away or sold, to anyone. All such info is kept

private. This means you will NOT find a ton of spam in your box the

day after regsitering... (i really HATE that!)

Again, http://www.hasselbladpro.com ... It went online just today,

October 15, 2003, after only 1 day of initial webdesign and layout

work, along with installing and cionfiguring the forums software...

so the overall design right now is very preliminray... much is

lacking... but so much is there already...

Thanks for your time, and thanks in advance for your gracious

support. Especially those who encouraged me to put this new site

    together!

  12. I got a NC-2 used, of course, and it appeared to have been sitting in baghdad when the bombs fell, but optically it was premo... $150.00

I disassembled it (easy if you are not a mechanical gimp) and refinished it... it now looks close to new (no one can reproduce new) and i am very proud of it. Only caveat is i did not attempt to re-paint the white "=V=" logo..... best to leave well-enough alone and i am happy enough even if it is not white...

  13. Myron, funny about your "battle worn" finish on your NC-2, i, too, recently bought an NC-2, for its optically perfect condition, for $150.00, the finish was pretty horriffic... 80% of the paint was gone, leaving some gray primer and much worn-exposed aluminum.

Having disassembled (2) minolta X-570's and (1) X-700 SLR, this primitive Prism finder was cake. simply pull the leatherette off, (the old adhesive is good, but not THAT good... it comes off in one piece is you are even marginally careful... 4 screws later and the back plate comes out. The prism is a sealed unit. It is glued to the main housing. Just carefully rock it a bit and it will come unglued... then remove the tiny screws that hold the base on. Careful to not lose these screws or the (2) ball-bearings... using a small razor, or jewlers scredriver CAREFULLY and SLOWLY pry the tiny "H A S S E L B L A D" name plate off the front, taking care to not kink, bend or warp it. it is glued on like the leatherette.

Remove the eyepiece lens by unscrewing the inner retaining ring.

Sand the aluminum parts with 600 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper. use running water for best finish. I used a quality Krylon satin finish black spray paint, although i highly recommend fuel-proof engine enamel as the paint is extremely durable and has more aggressive and rock-like hardeners. I did not elect to prime the aluminum. You may. Start the finish with some light dusting coats, allowing 30 secs to 1 minute drying. Dust again. then carefully apply a nice healthy coat. WORK FAST. Do not allow the paint to dry before your COMPLETE part coat application is complete, this minimizes speckle and dimpling.

Repeat if you feel necessary but DO NOT over paint.

Be sure no breeze or dust is anywhere near part.

Allow to dry at least 6 hours before handling.

If done properly this finish will apear identical to factory finishes, although lack of a hardener may be an issue in non-engine enamel formulations... after 3 years or so you will have an equivalent hardened finish.
