  1. We are going on safari in South Africa in an open safari vehicle. Does anyone

have any experience using the Bogen Superclamp mounted to the tubular safety

bar in the vehicle....in particular with a Wimberly style Bogen 3421 Gimbal

setup ? Is a leveling plate needed ? And how does the Bogen 3421 gimbal

    attatch to the superclamp ?

Does the superclamp stay tight on the railing ?

Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated !

  2. I was at McNeil in 2003. How close you get to the bears depends on how close the bears get to you...b/c you are sitting in a fixed location and the bears are wondering all around you. It is very exciting to say the least. As for lighting....it is coastal Alaska and that means lots of gray overcast weather but you can have sunny days too. It is what it is when you get there. Later in the season some of the bigger more dominant bears leave and then you see more moms with cubs...your choice !!

  3. Great advise guys !! Looking forward to seeing that video in the visiters center and watch the buffalo throw the tourons around like rag dolls !! But seriously, thanks for the warning on the buffalo.

They should be rutting in mid Sept and the big bulls should be even more unpredictable. I'll be very content to stay out of their way !!

  4. For all you experienced Yellowstone wildlife shooters....when photographing

wildlife in YSNP, how often in general do you need a focal length of less than

    400mm ??

    I have a minolta 400 f4.5 with a 1.4 minolta TC and a 24-135 zoom. Just

wondering if I really need an in-between lens.

I will be in YSNP for 10 days in Sept to concentrate on photographing the

wildlife, mainly using Provia 400f...I am not yet digital !! :(

Thank you for any advise !! Tom Grett New Ringgold Pa
