A typical view of modern Japan. More can be seen at:

There are more photos like this from Europe and Iceland and Asia at
my homepage www.angelfire.com/id/croon.

Green pylons with Japanese calligraphy at a mountain temple.

Flag on the defensive wall around the old city of Suwon.

This is in the very heart of Tokyo's business centre, taken in the
first heat of spring. I like this photo for some reason, the colours
or something -- though I am not sure how this will rate!
-
This crocodile/alligator was swimming in a tank in the window of a
restaurant in Seoul Korea. I don't know if someone was planning to
eat it or if it was just for show.
-
Flowers with red flags (hata) in the background at this Tokyo temple.
-
A sleek apartment tower in Tokyo Japan -- typical of the way most
people live here.

Taken on the banks of the ÷cì (Sumida River) ó (Asakusa)
(Tokyo) ú{ (Japan).

Carving at a Japanese temple famous for its annual blossom festival
(ÔÌÕè) in Tokyo.
-
Grave at a Japanese cemetery, with Buddhist statues and calligraphy.

Now is the time of falling cherry blossoms in Japan, like a fall fo
snow after the brief glory of the blossom viewing season. It's one
of the best times of the year to be in Japan, certainly one of the
most beautiful.
-
It's the Japanese "wabisabi" style -- a rock garden at a supposedly
famous temple at Monzen-Nakacho, Tokyo, Japan.
-
Chinese character from a small temple in suburban Tokyo Japan -- the
character means "open" by the way. For more photos of this ilk
please visit www.angelfire.com/id/croon/index.html.

From the side of a street in Tokyo -- the gardens are so small here,
just cracks between the pavement -- but still capable of devastating
beuaty.

Cherry blossom season is a week or so period in spring when the
sakura trees bloom and everybody comes alive to celebrate -- drinking
sake (rice wine) under the trees and so forth. This photo was taken
in Ueno Park in Tokyo on March 30 2003. Sublime as the photo looks,
I believe the lantern is actually advertising a handbag sale at a
nearby shopping center -- although I could be wrong!

These fish were in a tiny tank outside a company office on a busy
business street -- you wouldn't think that such a vivid slice of
nature could coexist with grey city reality. The photo was taken near
Ueno in Tokyo, Japan. Of course, koi (carp) fish such as these are
famous for their strong survival skills -- they are supposed to live
anywhere, in any conditions,

At Chiba Minato (Port Chiba) on the shores of Tokyo Bay. Nearby is a
monorail leading to the most futuristic train station I have seen in
my life -- although this photo captures more of a yesteryear rayonic
vibe.

This photo was taken in Katsuura in Chiba Prefecture in Japan, about
two hours south of Tokyo. The name of the ship is "Fusakaze" -- I
don't know what the "fusa" means but the "kaze" means "wind" -- as
in "kamikaze" of Second World War fame ("Divine Wind".)

It's the day after Christmas 2002 about 100km north of Sydney, in
Australia. The water is white and green under a brooding purply-
black sky. I think the Australian coast is an excellent place for
photography with its many beaches, headlands, rock pools and bizarre
geological formations.

A small beach north of Sydney on the east coast of Australia -- a
typical beach scene from this part of the world.

Taken in a Tokyo park one cold winter's day -- desolation,
dissolution and rebirth come together as one!
On a canal near Osaki Station, Shinagawa ward, Tokyo, on a sunny winter's day.

Like other Asian cities like Bangkok, Tokyo is criss-crossed by
canals. This photo was taken on the banks of a canal near Osaki and
Shinagawa, a major Tokyo port.
