  1. I must say, I am quite encouraged by the passion with which contributors to my question spoke. For the sake of clarity let me share the full story.

I bought the Nikon F50 with Sigma 28-105mm aspherical lens for a very modest price. I also, at an earlier date, bought the QT II 35-500mm zoom lens(sorry about the earlier typo which referred to this lens as a 28-500mm) for a song. My intentions are to fit the QT II lens to my F50 and experiment, fool around, you know, play with. I have no idea what the QT II lens is worth, but it seemed like a great purchase at the time(less than $40) and it is my first delve into "super telephoto" photography. As far as the F50, I couldn't be more pleased with it. It feels as though it grew out of my hand, very comfortable, and from what I've experienced, takes great pictures.(I know, I know, cameras don't take pictures, people take pictures)

I've decided to build upon these few pieces to put together a great kit to play with, recently adding a Nikon F3hp body and if I happen to get assignments from the local paper or shoot a friend's wedding, then maybe I'll invest in better equipment. Right now, its all experimentation.

    Question:

If you owned the F50 and F3HP, what lenses would you buy if you wanted to take candid photos of people. Thanks again for all your help.

  2. What kind of mount do I need for my Quantaray 28-500mm zoom lens to

fit my Nikon F50? All it has is threading. How do I determine what

gauge this threading is? Is it listed on the lens somewhere? Any

    suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Can anyone tell me about the Nikon F50? Is it an oversees camera?

what's the American equivalent? Why can't I find any specs? The one I

just bought has a Sigma 28-105MM lens on it. It is in mint condition.

Can you tell me the value of this outfit? Thanks for any information.

  4. What's weird is that the light baffle does not move in the allotted space smoothly. It seems that if it did move when pushing the shutter release it would take a little effort to get it to flip up. Can anyone explain this to me? The baffle is supposed to be light sound, but should it be to the degree of there being friction as the baffle moves? Thanks in advance for any replies.
  5. As you all know by now, I am brand new to Medium format photography

and my first purchase was a Mamiya RB67 Pro s. I considered the

purchase a steal until about an hour ago. I was able to obtain the

    manual and I'm learning

alot about the operation of the camera. I can't seem to get the light

baffle to flip up while pressing the shutter release button. I do

this with the back removed, so that I can see the action. The

mirror flips, but the baffle does not move. Is there some test I can

do without wasting film that would assure me that the baffle is

working properly? Should I be able to see the baffle flip up

when the shutter release is engaged? If not, how can I know without

wasting film? Thanks for any help!

  6. Thanks to a great deal, I've graduated to Medium format portraiture,

using my newly acquired Mamiya RB67 with 90mm lens. Can anyone suggest

a good tripod or pedestal for this camera? I noticed the mounting

hotshoe I need is a larger gauge than the universal one I use with my

35mm Nikon. This camera is heavy, do I need to consider a pedestal

    mount?

  7. Thanks to everyone that offered help to me and my new camera. It turns out that the body was not broken at all and I got a trememdous deal!(I paid less than $150). Now I'm looking to get the body light sealed. It is missing the rear light seal where the back attaches. Any suggestions? Is there a kit I can purchase and do it myself? Thanks for any suggestions.
  8. I recently purchased a Mamiya RB67 body, waist level finder, body

cover and revolving back for a song because the previous owner says

that the shutter won't cycle when the mirror flips up. It's as though

the spring on the shutter is detached or broken. Can anybody

recommend a good repair shop where I can send it and get it evaluated

without getting ripped? I am brand new to this format, but since the

purchase was so cheap(If I told you how much, you wouldn't believe it)

I figured I could begin with this "project" and build on it. Any

advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
