  1. Hello everyone. Rick, Don try this with the PyrocatHD. Rate the film at 250. Use 3ml of A, 3ml of B in whatever liquid amount (350 or 450 Nikor) for 13 minutes with Ricks agitation scheme. I use this method and almost all of my films hold both shadow and high lite values. Although I am using mostly Hypercat these days, the PyrocatHD will come out for those horrid grey days that "occasionally" roll into Hawaii. The HD has a bit more contrast. Aloha, Bill

    Thanks Bill

    What temp?

Rick is using 75 degrees I have always used 68.

  2. Don, great set of B/W images, especially the water scoops. I also have a IIIg with a rebuilt 50 Elmar f2.8 that I need to use once it stops snowing here and I can again go off my property. Thanks for your contribution. I hope to see more.

    Hello Christopher

Thanks for the comments, I may have to go back in the archives to post more but I have a roll of Rollei RPX 400 in the Hass 500cm and I am waiting for some batteries for the PME5 I just got to give it a test. So when things settle down I am going to put a roll of Ferrania in the Leica to test out the D96.

  4. Hello

These are from the Leica IIIg with the Elmar 5CM 2.8 and using Rollei Retro 80S developed in Rollei Supergrain 1-12

The sharpness is crazy and as you can tell by the first photo it does not like really contrasty scenes, blows the highlights, there were three that were unusable.

I like it otherwise, will just have to meter better for the highs or adjust the time or agitation?

  5. Hello

These from my recent thrift store pick up, a Minolta XG1 with 50mm Rokkor-X 1.7, the shutter was cocked but would not fire so I checked Butkus and the manual stated it would not without batteries, so I asked what they could do on it and they took it down from 10.00 to 7.00, I took it home put a couple of batteries in and works fine.

Some came out a little over but ok for a first try.

    Thanks Don

Nice results from the Yashica, Don. If the film was developed on a spool in a conventional tank I'd suspect the dark mark is caused by an air bubble, trapped in the spool. I occasionally have this problem but not consistently, and it can be annoying. There's a theory that setting the tank down with a bump after each agitation will disperse bubbles, but I'm not totally convinced.

    Thanks Rick

I normally do tap the tank after the inversions, on this roll when I finished and opened the tank and pulled the reel the film was rolled all the way up on the reel so I thought I might have a problem, but only one photo seemed to have any major issue.

  7. Hello all,

I recently received a Yashica Mat 124G and took it for a walk downtown Grass Valley and shot a roll of Ultrafine Extreme 400.

    I developed in HC110 B

The camera came from Goodwill and everything seems like it is in pretty good shape except for the shutter release was a little sticky on the return but is getting better with use.

Here are some of the first photos, in one of the photos there is a dark spot upper left corner but only on the one ???

  8. Hi Don. I'm in Namibia and had them serviced in Johannesburg, South Africa. Not very practical for you I guess. Must be one of the very last places in Africa where vintage cameras can still be helped. 2 others closed down last year for lack of business... (also in South Africa) The good side is it cost very little compared to what you can expect in the US or in Europe. Paid USD 65 for both, and I'm happy with their job.

Hi Rick. Thanks for your comment. I don't use these cameras much either, but I'll take one along when moving around. Film and prodessing has also become very expensive here so you get careful.

    Thanks Philipp500

I am getting ready to send a Retina to New Zealand for a CLA so might not be that bad if they don't mind shipping to US.

    Thanks

    Don

  9. Hello Katie

I would suggest a case for the Rollei instead of the lens cap, I have a Rollei lens cap and it is press on and does not work that well.

The case is much better and with the strap coming thru the hole in the side you just unzip and leave it attached and take the shot and zip back up..

The case and the strap may be more than what you want to spend but if you are going to use it a lot it is worth it.
