Yup. And just to clear up some questions you may have: This is not money I have. This is money that I will have after christmas from family and relativs (big family) So what if that is me? What are you gonna do about it.:)

I was leaning towards the tamron since it has an even better rating than the nikon 105. one question. Is 90 that much of a difference between 105?
-
by cheap i mean 400-475 us dollars. I can buy used
-
Definetly get the 80-200 AND then get a 50 1.4.
-
I agree with brian. It would basically be a lateral move. If you were ever going to upgrade cameras would want an f5 but by no means do you need to upgrade. The n90 is a highly capable camera. A better investment would be some nice lenses.

I had a very similar experience when I went to get my little brother a canon rebel G. The store dealer said,"Oh, you dont want that, what you want is this wonderful Nikon f5." I laughed in his face and left the store.:)

It all depends on who you ask. Some say it is very good. Other people say that it has some bad distortion. All I have read say it is plenty sharp. Definetly get it if you dont plan on shooting building or seascapes with the horizon in the top or bottom of the photo. If you do plan on using it for either of those then you must try it and see for yourself if the distortion is acceptable to you.

If you must get a "protective" filter get the most expensive one you can get. Theres no use in getting a $600 lens and putting a $25 filter in front of it. Personally I advise against "protective" filter use at all, but...

If you shoot woldlife you need a 400mm lens. I say sell the second elan and the tamron lens and get a canon 200 2.8 and a 2x teleconverter. You now have a high quality 400 5.6.

The pentax 67II. It has great(cheap) lenses and has a macro lens in the system.

I know that the slowest marked shutter speed is 8 seconds. I was
wondering if I the camera had any unmarked shutter speeds beyond this.
I did a test just now and I found that the shutter would stay open
for longer if I set it in aperture priority. Are these longer
exposures accurate? I know the fm3a has up to 30 sec of unmarked
shutter speeds.
Does the Fe also?

Most rubber hoods have threads on the front too. Simply put the hood on, then the step up ring, then the filter. This may not work if the ring is bigger than the hood, but its the only way unless you get a bigger hood.

The 20-35 is a very sharp lens. If I were you I would sell the 24-50 and get a 28 or a 24. Or you could always get the 18-35 nokon lens. Its very sharp, but watch out for distortion at the wide end. You should be fine unless you shoot seascapes with the horizon at the top or bottom of the frame. Hope this helps.

Yes, use a 77mm screw in wide angle filter.

Most of them have age limits :( Plus transportation would become an issue. For now I just stick to taking classes at a local community college. The age limit there was 18, so my parents had to pay extra the first time and get it checked out with the instructer. I learn so much in those classes. I think they are just as good as workshops, and at the end of the 8 week course we take a photographic field trip.

Oh by the way I may be young but I am talented and very knoledgable about photography. I have read countless books and magazine articles about photography so please dont think that because I am young I am not experienced. Oh yah I thought it might be helpful if I told you that I mainly shoot nature/ landscapes/macro.

I use a nikon 35mm with a 50 1.8 and a 70-210 f4 things I want: 2 nd grads from singh ray, a 24 2.8 nikon or a 300 4. I do not have a darkroom but my aunt was going to give me her old equipment. I would like a gitzo and a kirk bh1 but it is impractical for my equipment. I shoot velvia and provia 100f. By the way I can not take a workshop because I am only 15.

What piece of photographic equipment would you buy if you has $500 to
spend? We are fast approaching the holiday season and I was wondering
on what I should get if I had $500. I will spend a lot of it on film
and was wondering if I should get a 24 2.8 or 2 nd grads. I already
have a good tripod and a good head.

"highly volatile" hmm... Just kidding :)

lol! I must say that was a real good one! To tell you the truth I never ment to argue. It was a simple question. I was just wondering a SIMPLE question! Do I not have the right to ask a question? Geez. Actually no arguing is NOT more fun than making photographs. In fact I get VERY cranky unless I shoot at least 2 rolls of 36 exp. film a week!
Please forgive me if it sounded like I was trying to argue or start an argument. I was just wondering because I am about to purchase a 80-200 2.8 used w/ no tripod collar and would not want to cause harm to any camera with a brass lens mount. You know I think I should have said that before and it might of cleared this all up.
P.S. That last post was really clever!

Well it seems that no matter how I word my topic or how I word my questions I still cant get around the rude/mot helpful comments.
-
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each. Why is it that
even the F100 has a brass lens mount.(I say this because I read that
steel was better) Is this purely a cost issue? In my last post
people seemed to think that brass was just as good as steel. If thay
is so why is it that the f5 has a steel lens mount?
-
It was never meant to be a good canon vs bad nikon thread. I am SOOOO sorry if it came off like that! After all I use and LOVE my Nikon FE. Which by the way has a steel lens mount. :) I just though it was strange because I just read in a magazine how much better a steel lens mount was.(apparently not everyone feels the same way!) I just think that some people(not naming any names) can be very rude when it comes to internet responses. Just please, PLEASE try not to be rude. Why dont you guys just try to be nicer, not all of you are rude. Most of the time I get responses that are helpful and free from rudeness. I am sad to say that this is not one of those times. After all, didnt your mommy's ever teach you to treat others the way you want to be treated?
