I think the first crop is better in demonstrating the atmosphere while the second crop is great in how it enhances the dramatic impact of the image particularly by emphasizing the three vertical axes within the picture (the farmer and the legs of the animal). Amazing shot.

The static of the main subject relative to the movement of its surroundings has created a beautiful and meaningful contrast. Conversion to black and white works perfectly with the physics of the image. 7/7.

There is so much depth and momentum into this picture.

Skins are slightly retouched and, brightness and contrast are
adjusted. No other correction is done on this photo.

Winter Warmth

It is one portrait that doesn't owe its power merely to the beauty of the model but to that sincere and relaxing smile that depicts her internal mood. The pose of the hands and the redness of the sleeves do add to the picture. I am glad you didn't over-reouched the skin turning it to a complete plastic (awfully fashionable nowadays).
The light glow/soft effect works here. I would experiment with it further by checking how it would feel like if the face was not following the same softening effect of the back. If the picture is already cropped, I would experiment with alternative crops. Considering the 3:2 rectangular aspect ratio of the frame, I would try to follow the rule of thirds by placing the eyes in the upper one third location, if this was at all possible. I wouldn't be afraid of cropping the upper tip of the hat either depending on the available assets within the original framed picture.
