Very nice photo - and the eyes on that kid are amazing. This crop is better than the first, although I find the almost square proportion to be awkward. I'd go a little tighter on her back (up to the collar) and ask for a tiny bit more on top to make it more obviously vertical.
Either that, or make it fully square.
Also, excellent choice of available (I assume) lighting.

There is something specific about this that I really like. When I first looked at it, I saw the face looking away. I studied it mildly, but when I suddenly saw the second face staring right at me, I jumped a little.
You definitely pulled off an emotional effect here, bravo.
Too make a truly great photo, I'd like to see you use this technique with a more interesting background, maybe outdoors.

Very nice photo here, I'm really drawn to it. Great timing, too, catching the sky at dusk like that. Was this a long exposure? It has a bit of that reciprocity feel to me (which I like). The colors are just beautiful.
I too am not sure about the crop - it seems to me that making it a just bit wider would work better with the horizontal composition. I'd like to see a little more to the left of the existing image.

Hi Rob,
I like this photo and the others in your folder.
You've got a good eye for composition.
These pictures would look better in my opinion if you adjusted the levels in Photoshop - you're well short of using the entire tonal range. For example this image would benefit from an adjustment of 35, 1.2, 241 in the levels box.
Of course, just ignore me if you are doing this
on purpose, and keep shooting!

This was braced against a tree, hence the oddangle. The question - does it read for you? What would youdo differently?
-
I like this picture better than the other onebecause the spider appears more relaxed, andthus more threatening (he looks nervous andscared in the other one), and because I cansee his eyes better, which just makes it allthe creepier (umm, I mean, more effective :).

This is really nice as it is. Well composed and colorful. The echoed diagonals work for me.
You might want to go back and experiment with different angles on the
post. For example - getting closer with a wider angle to make the bird bigger while still getting lot's of background, putting the bird against the sky, and/or moving the house out of the frame.
And then when you find the right one, put out some bird seed and settle in with a novel. :)

This one was handheld becuase the deer showed up pretty quickly. It
was the only one of about 10 shots that was acceptably composed and
sharp.
Still it's missing something, and I'd really like to know how it could
be better.
Thanks!

The creek is the subject here. It's a perfect example of a relaxing nature photo.
My only critical comment is that I the water is a bit too misty and indistinct for my taste. A slightly faster shutter speed would fix that.
If I saw this print in the store I would probably buy it.
-
It's well composed and well exposed, but lacking a subject - or perhaps I'm not appreciative of the subtlety. What concept or feeling are you attempting to communicate?

Matt: Thank you! This was a quick idea with no decent camera on hand. I'm hoping to get back to thearea this spring to shoot it again, with morecontrol (and fill). Thanks for your insight.
Melissa: Love your doll photos! See my commentsthere. You might enjoy my fiancee's doll "photo-comic" at www.jendini.com. This image was taken when I was out assisting with her project.

I like your vision with the doll, this photo
and the other one too. Maybe a little less blur, but not too much less, the dreamy quality is nice.
Would love to see more.

I like this picture but I don't think it works as
well as it could. The dark spot is an obvious
problem, I'd like to hear critique on composition,
DOF, and overall idea.
Thanks!

Hello,
I would love hear your feedback on this one. This wastaken a few years ago, so I don't remember the exposuresettings, but I can tell you that it was in the 15-30 secondrange. Film was Fuji G400.
Specifically I would like to know:
- This image is not color corrected for reciprocity. I found the effect pleasing, what do you think?
- General aesthetic reaction
- Any technical suggestions you might have
All comments welcome, thanks!

I think the composition here is very good, and I like the idea as well. However, the two subjects are pulling my eye off the page in opposite directions.
I kind of like the soft focus on the flower, you've made the petals look like they feel. I can almost smell the flower. :) But both subjects are out of focus, leaving the least important area in focus, which I find distracting.
It looks like you are moving in a very interesting direction.

Wow. You must have been tracking him really well to get it that sharp. I'm enjoying the colors and the close crop, my only criticism is that I think it would feel more whole if his left elbow was in the frame.
-
I really like the idea here, but I'd love to see detail
in the sky. The tonal range present a real challenge.
I like the triangular composition too - including the branches.

I tried several similar rotations and none seemed to make the
picture "horizontal" (something was always askew).
Also, are my photos coming out too dark? They are supposed
to be Gamma 2.2 and sRGB for web display.
Thanks!
