1. Joy-

Do you realize that the SCAD program is a MA in photography, NOT an MFA.

Is your final goal to teach at the college level? Most college's want an MFA. I'm not saying that there are not colleges that will accept an MA- there most definately are but a MFA is more flexible.

I know lots about the program - I am a member of the first graduating class and was the first student accepted into the program. If you would like to email me at jchad@frontiernet.net I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

  2. Now from somebody who actually graduated from RIT my question is- Why not get a D70 and check out any other camera system you might need from the cage? (Basically a large closet full of the latest and greatest photo equipment that you can "borrow" for 24 hrs) You are paying a huge sum of money to go to a college that gives you access to the best equipment in the world- take advantage of it!
Back in the day I checked out a 6x17 fuji camera and took it to bike week to shoot infrared. What I wouldn't give for that opportunity again!
  3. You don't have to turn down a wedding that is far away. I too am in Western NY and this weekend just shot an event in Burlington VT. However before I agreed to shoot, the hotel was part of my fee. The B&G reserved and paid for a room in my name in advance. So even if I had not had a contract I would have had a nice weekend away in Vermont!
  4. Actually no, I didnt win- or for that matter even bid. But I know the auction(s) you mean. I have been looking at them and it seams like a nice format and a MUCH more affordable option than 11x14!
Thanks for the info though!
-Jeff
  5. Just interested in what lenses will cover 10x12 format without

    breaking the bank...Any suggestions?
Also anyone currently using this format and can share their

    likes/dislikes about it?

    Thanks!
6. I graduated from RIT and still live in the area. I wouldnt worry about the cold or social scene. The Boston area got almost as much snow this year as Rochester did. As for the cold- yes it can get cold- the wind is what really gets to you. I moved to Rochester from the Tampa Bay area in Florida (GO BUCS!), so if I can do it anybody can. The social scene is actually pretty good lots of things to do/places to go. Toronto is a 3-ish hour drive away if Rochester does not have what you want.

Also I wouldnt let those be the tie breaking reasons she chooses a particular college to attend. If you guys have any particular questions feel free to email me - jchad@frontiernet.net

  7. I graduated from RIT - its a fantastic school for advertising, bio-med, or tech or PJ. Although I personally did the first two years at a good community college. Then went through summer transfer, which is a "boot camp" for photographers- by far the hardest class I ever took. Feel free to email me any specific questions you might have.
  8. Of course it is appropriate. If it is worth hanging on the wall, it is worth your name taking credit for it. And it could lead to more business from potential clients who are dining there - what a great way for some free advertising!
Although I would suggest matted as it looks a little more classy IMHO, and you might have a little more room to say, put a web address linking them to your work even if it is just in pencil...
  9. Also you dont want to miss Angel Oak as a side trip if you are in the Charleston area. Largest Oak tree I've ever seen. I believe they said that it's over 2000 years old. Simply amazing is all I can say about it.
