Undersea adventures at an aquarium...
Leica M8 / 35 Lux Asph

Nice shot Alex.
Actually, I got the M8 - now, if they would just send me those filters...

Vivek:
You are correct of course. I did not mean to sound so apologetic - the point was that I enjoyed using it. I just did not want to add fuel to the heated discussions regarding the merits and shortfalls of the M8. :)

M8 / 35 Lux Asph.
I know there is a lot of controversy over this machine. I must say, though,
that I really enjoy using it. The fast lenses (I mainly use my 35 Lux Asph or
50 Lux Asph) are probably making the shots more interesting - but I think I
simply enjoy using a RF more than a large DSLR...
I guess for the money I paid for it, I'd better. But photography is only a
hobby for me (expensive) and thus far the M8, with all its limitations, is
making it more enjoyable.

Thanks David!
I am still a bit new to the world of digital processing and am now tackling the joys of RAW shooting - will try to post some more later.
Warm regards,

Hi Peter - if you are asking about color to B&W conversion, they were shot in B&W mode.
The color shot was on high saturation - I think it was too much, but this was a test, so it was worth a try.

Took some time out during lunch for some quick shots.

Thanks Peter - I guess I will try that.
I would not be keen to simply stick the lens on my brand new M8 and hope for the best...
Thanks again.

Well it was inevitable for a gear junkie like me - after deciding that I would
not let myself be tempted by the M8, I eventually put my name down for one and
have been advised that I would get it in the next batch which is expected this
weekend (I am in Asia).
Now the question - has anyone used the Heliar 50 3.5 on the M8? This is one
of my favorite lenses these days and I would like to see if I could use it on
the M8 (i.e., would it fold into the body without problem?). Any experiences?
Many thanks,
-
Thank you all.
And I will check out that forum as well.

Quick question - I am about to take the leap to FF Digital, from my current
20d set up. In addition to Canon lenses, I have been using prime Contax MF
lenses on my 20d. I know there are certain contax lenses which would not work
on the FF bodies because of the larger mirrors.
Does anyone know which of the lenses have known issues? Would the Contax
28mm2.8 clear the mirror on the 5d, 1dsMkii or 1dnmkii?
Any info would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
-
Thanks Joseph!

Would anyone have an electronic copy of the instructions or know where I might
find one on line?
Just purchased a set without instructions and I can't seem to figure it out...
I would appreciate your help.
Many thanks,
Whither the M8 and M8.2?

I am also a M8 owner/user. Although I would obviously love to get the M9 and use my lenses FF, the cost would probably preclude me from doing so. I was a bit surprised (well, maybe just sad) to see that Leica had suddenly dropped the M8/8.2 so rapidly from their lineup - as this probably means (although I hope I am wrong) that upgrades will not be made in the future. I would have thought, given the cost differences, that they could have maintained a crop body along with the new FF body. But I guess they did not want to canibalize their sales and divert their efforts.
I have always viewed the M8 as simply a digital camera - which would have a relatively short life span as such. I have seen other M8 users feel much more passionate about it, that because it is a Leica, it will be different. This certainly was supported by some of the marketing around the M8 - suggesting even that the upgrades, both software and in hardware, would keep the M8 current for many years to come...For those of us who bought into that idea, the M9 being released now, in such a short time, especially after the introduction of the 8.2 model, may be a bit hurtful.
I think what this release shows is that a digital M is still a digital body. I do feel (maybe because I own an M8) that the way Leica made this transition to the new M was even more abrupt than perhaps it could have been... business I suppose. I am happy with the M8 - a digital solution for my Leica lenses. Also welcome the M9 - which shows a FF solution is also possible and will keep my lenses relevant in this market. But I will wait a long while before taking the plunge and upgrade my digital M.
Funny, I apprently now own 2 of the M models which were produced for the shortest period - the M6 Classic 0.85mag and the M8.
