Hey Ken, say hi to Keith Partridge for me, will ya? :^D

Wow, there is something really cool about this shot and I'm not sure what it is! I've taken shots of Eagle Falls, usually when the water is flowing much higher in the spring, but this is a fantastic image! It looks like a painting or something. I like it. Ah lawk it alawt. A solid 7/6.

Thanks, Gerry! A fine art print of this image costs $1.2 meeeeellion dollars. I don't take American Express or sheep or goats or pigs. If you don't have $1.2 million, I'll take a Starbucks frap and we'll call it even. :^D

I had to use a 3-stop hard GND here to keep back the bright sun. Is
it still too harsh? Any suggestions appreciated. Gracias Senors and
Senoritas and also Senoras. I scanned this image in both English and
Spanish for those who are bivisual. Yes, I'm a dork.

Whew doggy, Doug, this is one for a magazine cover! Incredible shot! 7/7 all the way!

Thanks for the comments! I work part-time at REI in Roseville, CA. As for the tripod I use, I have been using a Bogen Digi-something-or-other, but I just upgraded to a Bogen/Manfrotto 3444D carbon fiber tripod which I just got a couple days ago and I haven't used it yet. I'm taking it with me to the Ansel Adams Wilderness this weekend. The wildflowers are awesome right now, yaaaaa! Happy trails!

As for shutter speed, to be honest I don't know, I left it up to the Canon® gods to determine that. It was all automatically determined.

Hi! This was a hand held shot in low light with Velvia, while zoomed
in with my 70-200mm lens while panting from hiking the switchbacks.
I was also juggling flaming swords and playing the guitar while
petting my dogs. Ha ha! Okay, that last part wasn't true, I'm sure
I had to clarify that one. I didn't use any filters or anything, we
just came across this scene while backpacking the JMT. Being
experienced in the High Sierra, this scene looked more like something
from Africa or the Andes. I'm curious about your thoughts or
suggestions. Thank you!

Thanks for the comment! To answer your question, I didn't shoot this at 40, I just shot it normally.

I appreciate the kind comments! Galen was/is my hero, combining wilderness adventure and photography like no other has, and his amazing photo from this same spot inspired me so much. I took a few pics of this same sunrise, I'll try and scan more soon. What's nice is that I live only about an hour and a half from this spot, so Lord willing I'll be able to witness many more sunrises here. I have stood here many times in the past watching these beautiful sunrises and sunsets over Emerald Bay, but rarely with a camera. Now I want to start sharing the beauty that I see. It's becoming a passion of mine as I hike, climb, and paddle. I almost overslept this sunrise, but I awoke from my sleeping bag and ran down to the waterfall as the horizon was glowing, but luckily the sun had not yet popped up over the distant mountains. As far as the Singh-Ray Galen Rowell GND's, I love them! They have transformed my photography more than anything else. I still have much to learn, and more Singh-Ray GND's to buy, but more importantly, I have so many new wild and beautiful places to explore! That's my true passion. God has done a wonderful job on this planet. How's that for a quick answer to whether I like the Galen Rowell GND's or not? :^D

Fantastic shot, Ken! Great colors and mood. And it looks like the kid just found your hidden egg on the beach. :Þ

Robert, the lighting on this is fantastic! Great shot!
-
Bravo! Simple, colorful, balanced, and VERY beautiful! Wish I was there!

I can't help but smile when I see such beautiful wildflowers! This is an AWESOME shot! Your photos are incredible!

I counted a million eyes.

This is great National Geographic stuff! Your folder of travel shots is spectacular!
-
Wonderful! I hope that guy has a canteen.

I'm glad these ugly bugs are actually quite small or I'd be afraid to walk out the front door! Your insect photos are truly amazing and I'd hafta give you a 7/7 for each and every one of them. This one is not "aesthetically pleasing" as far as physical beauty, but it sure is for the freak factor! Excellent job and I hope scientists are checking out your folders. And I hope they don't mess around with the DNA from this critter and let it escape outside of this species. Yowza.

I love everything about this photo! I hope to see this place with my own eyes someday. I have thoroughly enjoyed your photos.

This place is so cool! Great shot!

Hey Robert, I plan on lots of backpacking/kayak trips this year, we should hook up sometime! And Tommy, the scanner I use is a Nikon Coolscan IV ED. Thanks for the comments!

I think it's from both the time of day as well as a nearby forest fire creating a haze in the distance. Shoot! Oh well, it was still a great hike! :^)
