    Sedge on the edge

          1

This photo was taken on a spring morning shortly after flood season in

    Ottawa, Ontario, (Canada).

I was on a mission to find betuy and nature within the city limits of

    Ottawa.

The location is along the shores of the Jock River in a bow just after

    a road bridge.

The rule of thirds is essentialy broken by having the subject centred,

although the emergent plan breaks through the water on the bottom

third. I find that this gives the plant a sense of direction.

I tried different lenses and filter combos. I found because I wanted

the bright sun that I had to sacrifice under exposed leaves for

silhouettes. I tried a fill flash but that gave a fake feeling. I

tried a graduated neutral density but that took away from the feeling.

  1. This photo should be self explanatory...

Although I am mainly inot nature and landscape I am exploring other

genres. I debated over the converging verticles... I don't have

bellows so straight lines were out of the question... so I went mid-way

Just my bias, but it should have been snow :)

Also a slower shutter speed could help emphasize the idea of motion...

The white top makes the face pop out. Lucky circumstance, good pic

  2. Tricky... not that the picture is hard to frame. but choosing the correct exposure... trees extremely highlited and shadows have good detail.... I think the curved road saved this picture from the depths of 'just another beautiful fall picture'.

Be curoious about the smae location, same season but with some difused light through cloud cover. Bring out more color of the trees.
