1.
Good to see a post on the Nikon EM. I have one too. I dont use it these days though. I still cherish the camera. It was the first camera we bought when my father was in Malaysia in the mid 80s. We used it with a 50mm f1.8 lens and a Sunpak flash. The first few pictures we shot with this camera just blew us away with its bokeh. Those were the days. I wish sometimes I could go back in time when things were far more simpler :).

2. I am subscribed to a Canon 10D yahoogroup and there has been a very long discussion on the same topic. This seems like a tactic used by the agency to refuse paying up the customers. Its best to take copies of everything that you send to Canon, and in any case, you could still call them up and tell them that you have the copies, and in all probablity, they would tell you that it was an error and would send you the cheque. There were quite a few on the forum, who were wondering if this scam could be reported if we get some kind of statistic.
3. Its out officially. The rumors that we were hearing for the last couple of weeks

seem to be true. Rob Galbraith has pictures of the 2 new L series lenses from

Canon. The 70-200 f4 IS L is around 1250$ and the 50mm f1.2 would be around 1600$.

4. For a walkabout, there would be 2 choices, the 17-85 IS, which is an EF-S lens, and the 24-105 IS lens. The former is well within your budget, and the latter, you need to stretch your dollar :). All the best.
5. I dont buy this argument of the 50mm MK II being so inferior in construction that it would break any minute. For one, its not made out of crystal or glass, secondly, I dont think most of us use the lens as a YO-YO. I have had the 50mm MK II for a couple of years now and love it. I tried the MK I once and though its got a metal mount, I found it a tad bit slower at focusing than the MK II. I dont think anyone can go wrong with this lens and this is one lens that definitely needs to be in every photographers bag. Happy Shooting.
6. Frank, I am not very sure about the ebay batteries, but many friends I know, who are professionals, choose to buy their batteries at www.sterlingtek.com. They work to around 12$ a piece with shipping and are 1800mAh, more powerful than the original Canon batteries. You get the BP 511 and BP 512 versions.
7. Sorry Yakim, let me try to be more clear. Some time this year, I am planning to get a 70-200 f2.8 L IS lens (i need to beg borrow or steal for this). I love shooting macro, and all i use today is a 50mm with some close up filters attached to it. Having to buy the 70-200, I would definitely not be able to get a macro lens, now if I use the 70-200 with close up filters attached, how different would the image quality be compared to either the 100mm f2.8 Macro or the 180mm Macro from Canon. What would the difference be in terms of magnification?

When i mean Macros, I like shooting flowers, still life and sometimes insects and bugs.

8. Get your money back ASAP. Buy from B&H, they are really good, Adorama is good too. Get yourself the Rebel XT with the kit lens and add a 50mm f1.8 for another 70 odd dollars. Learn to photograph with these lenses, and then as you learn, you would know what lenses you need. As someone said before, the equipment is just a catalyst, its the person behind the camera that composes the picture. All the best and happy shooting.
9. I was just wondering, is there any place on the net where they have

compared the sharpness and quality of the 50mm 1.8 and other L lenses?

The reason this comparison might be useful, is because, almost all SLR

camera body users have the 50mm lens, and aspire to get an L lens, so

what could one expect?
