A lot to like, a wonderful soft tone and tranquil mood that makes me (and probably most others)want to step into the scene to enjoy it. My only small concern would be the lowest left rock that i think is a bit prominent in the frame, taking attention from the golden cliffs. maybe a moderate bottom crop would help minimize that.

    Cheers!

Very well captured moment! wonder what they are talking about? The guy's body seems to be in a defencive state, but not his facial expression that is quite neutral, perhaps a bit on the curious side. Would love to know what this is all about, but at the same time, not knowing keeps me coming back, to look for clues that could tell me more...

    cheers!

Nicely composed, with leading lines quiding the viewer to the "splash" in the clouds. What this image lacks in wow factor, with striking colurs etc, it takes back with the softness in tonality and a somewhat special colour combination giving a mood that i like, but are not yet able to express with words.

    well done!

    Barred Owl

The owl is looking good, but IMO the out of focus area over the head is disturbing,  i would crop close to the head to minimice it, and perhaps taken some of the left side too.

    Regards!

  1. The soft tones gives a tranquil and pleasant feel to it. Panoramas are often difficult to compose, and that is my issue with this photo too.

The left and right side are competing for the attention. The fisherman? is occupied with his boat, and is looking to the left, keeping my eyes there instead of being led to the right  to the sunbeam in between the boats.

Perhaps a tight left crop could reduce this effect. nonetheless.. a beautiful image to look at.

    Cheers!

Bela's suggestion has its merits, but i would go for the original. The partly visible star trail makes this stand out in terms of the originality aspect of it, as well as giving a kind of dynamic appearance to the composition. Iam not familiar with this location, but i might guess its a popular place to photograph and this take will  differ from the vast majority of other photos taken here...no doubt.

    Cheers!

I am trying as hard i can to find something to pick on.....but fails..

Like this a lot...would say that this is a photo that would score high on originality.. the direction of the boats, wich is passing in a straight line is demanding more space on the right side, but instead the space is directed up in the air.... giving a effectful and minimalstic style. A somewhat graphical look perhaps.

Well working comp, and lovely glow on the cheetas.

However, on the back all the way from top to bottom on the right one, there is an artificial look. Seems like it doesnt blend in with the background. I wonder if this would be the result of a severe crop, (the sky look pixelated) or are there some cloning involved here?

    Regards!

    First rays

          15

One of your best Jeff. As the other commentators, i find the rays at the rocks very appealing, along with the overall colours and tone.

But what make this stand out is the scale issue. When i opened it, i first thought it was taken from the air...looking at some big cliffs, a little bit later the rocks where small...and then large again.  And when you not have a horizon, there is nothing to "anochor" it....its floating between unreal and reality...

Im quite shure i have made a similar comment on an earlier shot taken by you or Leigh Perry....or both..

Photos like this are rare, at least here on PN, in fact i have not seen many shots like this at all...

This and the other with the same scaling effect you have, will IMO have a great potential as a exibition series in an art gallery.

    Final glow

Most beautiful tone and mood!  It has a colour palette that give a stronger sense of tranquility, compared to more images with stronger colours.

My only pick is the cutoff low stone, would preferred some space below it.

But perhaps it was not possible to achieve that.

All inn all, a good photo that has superb tonality!

    Cheers!

    Raven

          21

It's a winner! Nothing that imo can be improved. Its also interesting because of the way the comp works...the left low curved branch pointing at the raven, and equally improtant, the divided right branch' right side filling the right space enough to avoid the comp to get left "heavy". Take away that right side part of the branch and it would be a quite different image..its all about the details!

    Cheers!

    The Boat #1

    Thanks for the comments folks!!

This photo was taken not long before dark. Its a photo that i like because of the memories its bringing back...and that is often problematic in terms of judging it in a objective way. My main concern is the right side, a lot of space with not much going on, giving all the weight on the left side.

Otto and Stephen sums it well up i think...the boat takes most of the attention and holds it. But the empty space at the right does not ruin the overall impression.

And that was the issue i was hoping to get feedback on.  Luckely for this photo it was positive...

    Thanks!

  2. Like what you are doing here. Creative composition that have a distinct wall hanging/fine art feel to it. Regarding the tonality, the somewhat hey key foreground/water fits well to this comp, but the sky seems too dark i feel. My suggestion would be to lighten it up to fit the foreground better, and thereby give the whole image an even tonal range.

    Cheers!

  3. Well i manage to see the animal face at the right, and a what seems to be a big ear at the left...but not the others. When it comes to the photo itself, i think i would crop out the background, and take som off the top, then the animal face at the right would be more prominent i think.

    Regards

    Golden Curtain

Attractive photo indeed! Was thinking about suggstion a top crop, but after letting time pass by around 5 min, im not going to suggest that...works as good or better as it is. Well done!

    Yet another

          13

Like it! I belive a great part of that is the fact that i see a animal face here,  with blue ears, eyes...an eyeball on the left and a brown nose. So for me its not just an abstract with lines and colours... Am i the only one that  see this?...perhaps i need to check my eyes...  :-)

Thanks for your comments! The photo came out on the darker side when it appeared on this site,(i proccessed it in NX2). It has been a while since my last visit here, so i dont know if that is common that images gets darker like this.

Its probably me that was doing something wrong in the save process i guess.

A long time Jeff, good to see that you still are going strong. This shot is digital, not velvia, so there is some post processing work involved.

Sometimes i wish there would be a "velvia" button on the camera, it would make things easier.  At times i really miss that film.
