  1. Hi all:

Im taking my wife and 5-year old to Washington D.C. for a

relatives wedding and short vacation. Well have 1-2 days in D.C.

and 1-2 days in the Norfolk, VA area. My main priority will not be

photos (so I want to travel somewhat light), however, I will be

taking lots of pictures each day. At the wedding, Im just a guest,

so my photos will be for personal use only.

Ill be taking my D-100 (no tripod or external flash).

Heres a list of my autofocus lenses:

    Fast Zoom: 17-35 AF-S, 28-70 AF-S, 70-200 AF-S VR

Slow Zoom: 24-120 VR, 70-300 ED

    Primes: 28/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.4

Im considering taking my 17-35, 28, and 85.

My thinking is the zoom will be great during the day with the 85

(being an effective 128mm) being useful as a short telephoto. At

night (and indoors during the day) the 28 and 85 really shine.

All I wont have with me is a long tele, but I really dont feel

like carrying the 70-200 for 8-10 hours a day. Should I bring the

70-300? Its pretty light, but so slow it will only be useful in

bright sunlight. Do you think Ill need more than 128mm (with the

    85) anyway?

Lastly, does anybody have any dont miss attractions in the

Washington D.C. and Norfolk, VA areas?

    Thanks,

  3. I have the 80-200/2.8 and I often will use my 85/1.4 when weight becomes an issue. It is superb. No, it's not a light-weight, but it's much lighter than a 80-200.

I also use my 70-300 ED when I want to travel light, and although it's not as sharp as my 80-200, it's fine for prints up to 5x7 and let's face it, it's lot better if since I can carry it all day, than the 80-200 that's at home!

  4. The TC-14E II does not work with the 28-70 AF-S as the rear lens element extends too far and will cause damage when zoomed. The same with the 17-35 AF-S. I don't believe there's any teleconverter for those lenses. (Sorry - I don't have my instruction pamphlets with me

    at work).

It works great with the new 70-200 AF-S VR!

  5. Hi Daryl:

I have an F-100 and D-100. I love them both, but I haven't shot a roll of film in several months. It's just so easy to use the D-100. You get photo-qulaity prints to over 8 x 10 size. With my 512 MB memory card I can shoot almost 200 shots without having to change a film cartridge. I can change ISO on-the-fly, shot for shot, etc. I can shoot color and black and white at the same time, etc.

Any I don't have to wait 3 days to print 400 images. I can do it at home in photo quality. And I never have to worry if I got the shot either, as I can see this seconds after taking it, right on the camera.

Go for it - it's a blast. Just keep your film camera and you can have both!

    - Mike
