1.
Another related question:
How is R1 kit setup compared to the R1/C1 kit? Is R1 kit good enough for micro photography, and what are the limitations compared to R1/C1.

 2.
Thanks guys for the prompt answers...These limitations were not listed on the pages that I visited (including Nikon's page)
looks like it's not a low cost option for a flash.. Mostly I will buy SB-400 or SB-600.
Again proved that there is no free lunch...:-)

 3.
Hi
I am tempted to buy Nikon SB-R200 flash for my D90. However, I believe that it can not be mounted on the camera. While it's ok to mount it on the stand for tabeltop photography, I was just wondering if it will be practical to handhold the flash. This will be helpful in certain cases, wedding or kids programs for example.
I also read about the adapter to attach the flash to the lens. But it's additional cost and then the whole point of buying low cost flash is lost (then I can buy a SB-600 flash instead!).
Thanks for your help...
4.
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
Well, some of you have asked for the reasoning behind the settings... High ISO due to low light, aperture priority set to f8 because I know my lens is too soft below f8, spot metering because I was shooting birds and butterflies mostly.

I think I will switch to matrix metering and try now.

Chauncey – your comments seem reasonable. I read dpreview D90 review and they also mentioned about blown highlights. In your opinion does -.3 EV increase the noise level in shadow area?

What is the highest ISO that you guys use for low light?
Elliot: I am not new to “photography in general”. I have been shooting with DSLRs (and not in green shooting mode) with some success – at least never came across the problems so severe..

 5.
Hi
After about a year long debate with myself, I upgraded to Nikon D90 recently.
I took D90 with Tamron 70-300 to local Zoo and spent a day.Light was low so I bumped up ISO to 1250
However, when I saw my photos back I was a little disappointed. Obviously I did something wrong...
The first issue is blown highlights. Attached is sample of the same. Is this due to high ISO? Or spot metering? Or seting ADR to normal?
Second issue is that, the auto CA correction did not work. Another sample is attached for the same. Does Auto CA correction need any specific setting? I was shooting using JPEG fine option. I can understand it wont clean the CA completely, but as you can see from attached sample, the CA is too much and I think the camera did not even try to remove CA.

00UOvH-169861584.jpg.7ba15de8c162f86ec89255ee5782d8d3.jpg

 6.
Thanks for the response!
I also checked with Tokina lens catalogue, where there is a fine print about not able to AF on D40
Looks like I will have to go for D90 to be able to use this lens (its light weight, small and cheap so tempting!).
May next question - will there be automatic CA correction with this lens on D90? Or does the CA correction apply only for Nikon lenses?

 7.
Hi All
The below link mentions that Tokina 80-400 lens (ATX 840D) is compatible with Nikon D40 / D40x
http://www.badkey.com/db/fotoclub.nsf/d6plinks/JWIE-79DPXS
Does this mean the lens will auto focus on these cameras?
Does anyone have experience if this lens autofocuses on any Nikon cameras that do not have built in lens motor like D40 / D60 / D5000?
Thanks!
8.
Thanks a lot for the replies.
I now feel that I better go with D60 (without 18-55) and add tarmon 10-24 to it. Later on I may add normal zoom lens.
As per my previous SLR, it was Canon EOS 350D with few lenses, flash and tele converter. It was a nice gear, but I realised that the system which I built over years was based on availability of cash flow from time to time. It was not based on my requirements. The only good lens which suited my requirement was Canon 100mm usm macro (I used to do a lot of macro work). But that lens caught fungus twice and I got it cleaned. When it got fungus the third time I thought better to sell it rather than repair it again...

 9.
Hi All
I sold my entire SLR gear few months back and going for a fresh start.
I am mainly looking for architecture, interiors, cityscapes meeting. Mostly intereseted in wide angle shooting.
I came to know that Nikon D40 with 18-55 VR lens is good deal (AUD 550) in online shop. I plan to add Tamron 10-24 (another AUD 600) to it and ready to go...

Now the issues:
1. Since D40 is old technology, will I miss much in terms of image quality? Are the cameras like D60 and D5000 have advanced in terms of image quality? I can see that D60 body costs same as D40 with 18-55 VR lens in the same shop.
2. 6 MP - are they enough to make 10x15 prints (with upsizing)?
3. I read that Nikon D40 does not come with RAW editor. Does any other open source editor support RAW for Nikon D40? Mainly I may need to consider for lens CA correction for both the lenses that I chose (I suppose both lenses have bad CA)
4. Will there be any support issues for D40?
Thanks for your help!
12.
Hi Bob
I used exiftoolGUI to edit the exif data of my 350D. My problem was more challenging - because I have 350D camera which itself is not supported by DPP
After changing the exif data, I DPP still disables those options when I open the RAW file.
I read the "process" to fool DPP here: http://forums.powershot-a.com/showthread.php?t=993
He mentions in the last post that it worked for him.
But it does not work for me. Not sure why.

 13.
Hi

I recently downloaded latest DPP version from Canon UK web site, so that I thought I will use for RAW images from my 350D
However, I realised that DPP does not support 350D for automatic "lens abbration" defects corrections (particularly CA I am ineterested in)
Will it work if somehow I change the camera model in exif data to 450D? (using ExiftoolGUI for example)?
I wonder that the "lens model" is not part of Exif data, so how does the DPP identify the lens used?

Thanks for your help
Suhas

 14.
Update : I downloaded the lasted DPP and now realsied that my lowly 350D iteself is not supported by the DPP for lens corrections!
If I somehow change the exif camera model to 450D, will it work? From where does DPP get information about the lens used? The information about the Lens model used in photograph is NOT mentioned in Exif data. Hence I am not sure how it realises which lens was used for the photo.
Any help on this will be welcome....
