1.
Dear forum members,
I was very delighted when a month ago I stumbled upon my image in an internet magazine that was used by Microsoft for their current Windows 10 campaign. This image was used in Microsoft`s central presentation of their Windows 10, albeit only in a short sequence, and consequently for ads, <a href="

and screenshot tutorials. The image was also made available for download on many platforms.
The image, a snow covered Austrian landscape in the county of Salzburg, was delivered to Microsoft via Getty Images as a rights protected image as all of my images are. My European Stock Agency, Picture Press, is a "quality agency" that gets my images on an "exclusive" basis.
So far so good. When I asked my stock library in Europe, that had delivered the image to Getty Images, about the kind of licence I was told that this had been a consumer download:
Usage: Product design - Software and video games
Start date: Jan 14, 2015
Territory: World
Industry: Computer Software
Exclusivity: No Exclusivity
Delivery Method: Customer Download
Release Information: No release required
The image made its way around the world as you easily will find out if you make a simple google search, MS Austria even congratulated me for the "shot of my life".
Today I got the account from my stock agency: 43 €, about 50 USD.
That made me speechless: MS had licenced an image for product design and then started a viral campaign using my image as the central image. I can only hope that this was a mistake by MS and not intended.
What do you think, what should I do? Qualified advice very welcome.
Finally the link to the original image and the MS version of that images on my website
Regards
Franz

  2.
I've been using a sony a7r with my canon tse lenses (24, 17mm) for 3 weeks and really like the results. Don't see any problems when shifting and the edge sharpness is at least as good as with my canon 5dII. The only problem is that my "ballhead plate" obstructs shifting to the extreme positions. And you have to force the canon lenses a little bit to mount it on my Metabones III adapter. On the other site I don't see any problems with sharpness on the whole sensor/image and no Chromatic abberations even when shifted after importing into LR.
3.
Please apologise my long absence. Hopefully the thread isn't dead yet. But I followed Charles advice and bought the photographer`s guidebooks for Oregon and Northern California and the reading took some time!
Now I`considering a new route: Should I go the whole way up the Pacific coast to Portland, visit the Columbia river gorge and on the way back pick up the highlights from center Oregon and Northern California and leave Yosemite NP for an other visit at a better time than mid May? What do you think?
4.
Dear contributers!
I really appreciate your great help. As it's a once in lifetime journey I want to make it right. From your answers I see that it should be the right decision to go up north. I will follow the advice of Steve and David and include the southern part of the Oregon coast up to Brandon into my route.
I see that there is not a big enthusiasm from your side for Yosemite NP. Might be to early in the year?
Mono Lake does only make sense in my route if Tioga pass is open!?
Tom: Palouse would be great! Have seen wonderful images from the region. But too big distances for this journey, as I primarily want to stay out in the nature, enjoy the surrounding and take pictures. May be sometime?
Don: I'm from Salzburg, Austria. Great scenery here to (will attach an image). Thank you for your help.
Thank you all for your warm welcome here and your wishes for my stay in the US.
5.
Dear community members!
This will be my second journey to the West of the US. At the end of April I will arrive at SFO and go for a 23 day trip with an RV. My first one was to the Colorado Plateau with all the overwhelming highlights (http://www.xdreamphoto.com/NP%20USA%20SW%202010%20by%20Franz%20Pritz/index.html).
I`m in the process of planning and not finally sure what way an which places to go to. Basically I don`t want to drive too many miles but rather stay at interesting places for some time and do some hiking and photographing. Have done so at my first journey when I went down the Grand Canyon and back in one day, just to give you an idea.
My plan so far is, after shooting in the Bay area for 2 - 3 days, to drive up the CA coast (Marin Headlands, Salt Point State Park, Mendocino, Trinidad Beach, Humboldt) to the "Redwoods" near the OR border and then to drive West to "Lava Beds"- region, and south to the Lassen region, then to"Tahoe Sierra" and "Central Sierra" and have the finish in Yosemite NP.
May I ask you experienced community members if this is a good plan or if I should consider some special things.
Another question: would you suggest to consider another circle with Yosemite NP, Death Valley and the south CA coast and for which reason?
Any help appreciated. Thank's in advance.
6.
Did the same journey last year. Started April 26 for 3 weeks. You can find the places I visited here: http://www.xdreamphoto.com/NP%20USA%20SW%202010%20by%20Franz%20Pritz/
Findings: wonderful time for this region - blooming desert! Be prepared for cold weather!! I was really surprised about the cold temperatures I encountered in the desert! The north rim of Grand Canyon was still closed due to snow! Antelope Canyons: Enjoy the calm of the lower Antelope Canyon. Go for the light beams at Upper Antelope Canyon but be prepared to "fight" for a good place to be able to get a shot in the few seconds you will have without people running around. This canyon is very short, 250 m, and lots of people are herded through it especially at noon, when the light beams occur. Be prepared for some stress here. But overall: a highlight for photographers and nature lovers! Enjoy. Franz

  7.
Thank you all for your precious information. Following your advice I think that I should concentrate on the Tetons and Yellowstone region and not combine this great places with the west coast and Yosemity NP. Will plan for this and other recommended places separately.
One question, what would you recommend as good additional places (hiking, nature, photography) to combine with Y/GT in my 3 - 4 weeks vacation?
Franz

  8.
Thank you for your kind and sophisticated responses.
Eric, Yellowstone and the Tetons sound great! I've seen great movies and images of the place. The Tetons are not that familiar for me. Are there special photographic guides as there are for the desert southwest? (Laurent Matres) I found them very helpful to plan the visit.
Bob, the drive down the westcoast sounds also very good to me. Is 3 to 4 weeks time enough for this route including Yosemite NP?
New England would be great too including the big cities. But for now I'd prefer the nature highlights of the US.
If need be, I can change the time of the visit.
I would be pleased about further comments.
9.
Dear forum members!
I`m a nature enthusiast and photographer from Austria, Europe, and got some very good information here for a journey to the Colorado Plateau this spring. I really enjoyed the great landscape and the photographic opportunities I encountered on my hikes through the fantastic NPs and NMs of that region (http://www.xdreamphoto.com/NP%20USA%20SW%202010%20by%20Franz%20Pritz/).
Now I'm again planning a trip to the US or Canada in May/June 2011 for 3 to 4 weeks. Main interest again: Nature, hiking, photography ...
Could someone give me some advice for a great region in the US or Canada I could travel to?
Thank you in advance
Franz

  10.
Going for a 3 week photograhy journey with a RV starting at SFO at the end of April and then going down via Yosemite NP to Zion NP to the Grand Circle.
What recommendations would you have for the route from SFO. Should I include some West Coast part. It`s my first stay in the region.
Thank you in advance.
Franz

  11.
Hopefully I`m on the right forum with this information. But as an nature enthusiast who has just created a new website, dealing mostly with landscape and nature photography, I think nature photographers should be the right audience to review and enjoy the images on my new website: http://www.xdreamphoto.com/
You will also find free wallpaper images for download featuring Austrian nature jewels.
Thank you in advance for having a look and for any feedback.
12. The new profiles are quite interesting. But you might get problems as I did when I applied the Adobe Landscape beta 1 to some of my images. Aferwards (after having exported the images to 16 bit TIFFs and done some editing in Photoshop) I could`nt save that images with PS Image Processor (Photoshop failure 14149) in a special folder and I could'nt even save a single image as JPEG in Photoshop. IMatch finally did the job. So I decided to stay away from the Beta profiles for the time being. Franz
  13. Thank you, Patrick, I think that I might have narrowed down the problem. During the weekend I downloaded some of

Adobe profiles for Lightroom 2. And now after some testing I realized that the Scripting Processor would always

stop at images on which I had applied the Camera landscape beta 1 profile. Whatsoever causes the problem, I think

it's connected with this special profile applied in Lightroom 2. What the hell is Adobe doing? The second time in

just half a year I`m getting problems with new Adobe software! The first time there was a heavy problem with a

    LR update! Franz

  14. I have been using Photoshop CS2 for about 3 years without special problems. But yesterday evening when I wanted

to convert a folder with 16 bit TIFF as usual to another folder in JPEG format, I always got the information:

"Severe Photoshop failure" and when I ask for further information "Photoshop failure: 1414".

I hoped that the problem would disappear the following day after a restart of the computer, but no change. Now I

reinstalled CS2 and again the same problems.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? What should I do? Any help much appreciated. Thanks. Franz

  15. 62.300 shots! Have`nt had one single problem so far with my 5D. Perfect camera for me. Though I am regularly changing lenses, I did`nt have to touch the sensor so far. A strong air blower did the job for me. Franz

It gives you the possibility for zooming into images and performing pan shots. There is a free Basic version with just one track for audio and images. The pro version gives you as many tracks as you wish. Have seen wonderful presentation with this programme. One can export either as DVD Video, MPEG1/2, EXE-Presentation, WMV ...

They have a forum at http://www.avstumpfl.com/forum/ but most of the contributions are in German.
