  1. I found this out on the internet, it seems to point in the right direction...

..."Caution: if the photographer uses a telephoto lens or a boom microphone, there may be a violation of California's new anti-papparazzi law (Civil Code section 1708.8) even though the photo or video would otherwise be perfectly legal. And trespassing to get an image or sounds is now prohibited by this law."...

I looked at the above mentioned 1708.8 and it does not specifically mention telephoto lenses although it does refer to the use of visual or auditory enhancing devices (apparently referring to telephoto lenses, etc.) to violate someone's privacy.

    Good Luck,

    Carl

  2. Fred,

I found this on the Tokina website:

"The Next generation of AT-X is the AT-X PRO SV series. The fist introduction is the AT-X 287 AF PRO SV, an exceptional 28-70 f/2.8 auto focus lens. With its emphasis on value, its cornerstone is its heritage of Tokina HLD optical glass. Advancements in fabrication technology and the greater use of composite materials have created a lens that is lighter in weight yet more substantial value. The constant f/2.8 aperture makes focusing and shooting in low light situations much easier than other standard lens with smaller apertures. An internal focusing system couple to a Focus Clutch Mechanism yields quick and quiet auto focus as well as smoothly damped manual focus action."

  3. I would say it depends on what lenses you already own. If you own a few Manual Focus lenses and you want to use those lenses on your new camera then don't get the N80 as it won't meter with those lenses. If you want to use the newest G type lenses with VR, AF-S, etc. then the N80 would be the most compatable with those lenses. As for the N90 don't get it get the N90s instead. The N90s has a couple upgrades that make it a better camera. I have never used an F4 so I can't really provide anything useful there. I know that the F4 will be more durable than either of the other cameras. It will also matrix meter with MF lenses.

    Good Luck,

    Carl

  4. What's next? Maybe we can remove/flag photos that feature swastikas or portray a hate based message, how about blood, guns, violence, or religous content? Censorship is censorship PERIOD. Only the individual looking at the photo has the ability to determine if it is offensive to them. If you don't like it then move on with that photo or with your life. There are plenty of internet sights out there where you and your kids can find porn. <P>

Chris, As for your title: <I>"Response to If it looks like a duck,....."</I> I think the passage below is most appropriate:<P>

<CENTER><B>From Monty Python's the search for the Holy Grail</B></CENTER>

In a small medieval village, where a group of peasants turned mob have brought a woman accused of being a witch to a local knight for permission to "BURN HER!" The knight uses some interesting logic to determine if she is a witch:<P>

[Knight]There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.<BR>

[Peasant]What are they? Tell us! Tell us! (Do they hurt?)<BR>

[Knight]Tell me: what do you do with witches?<BR>

    [Peasant]BURN THEM!!!<BR>

[Knight]And what do you burn apart from witches?<BR>

    [Peasant]MORE WITCHES!!![smack]Wood!<BR>

    [Knight]So, why do witches burn?<BR>

    (long pause)<BR>

    [Peasant]...cause they're made of wood...<BR>

    [Knight]Good...<BR>

[Knight]How can we tell whether she is made of wood?<BR>

    [Peasant]Build a bridge out of her.<BR>

[Knight]Ah, but can you not also make bridges out of stone?<BR>

    [Peasant]Oh yes.<BR>

    [Knight]Does wood sink in water?<BR>

[Peasant]No. No, it floats. It floats! THROW HER INTO THE POND!<BR>

    (having settled down crowd)<BR>

    [Knight]What also floats in water?<BR>

[Peasant]Bread, apples, very small rocks, cider, gravy, churches, lead...<BR>

    [King]A duck.<BR>

    [Knight]Exactly! So logically...<BR>

[Peasant]If she weighs the same as a duck, she's made of wood.<BR>

    [Knight]And therefore....<BR>

    [Peasant]A WITCH!!!<BR>

    <P>

I am sure most of us here at photo.net will be able to use our senses of humor to replace witch with porn (etc.) to better understand the logic behind this thread. As a footnote to this message I don't think we will solve this age old debate here at photo.net.

  5. Louis,

I have to disagree with you, sorry... :) I am interested in film AND digital cameras but primarily only if they are Nikon. The by brand division works the best for me. This way I only have to look through one forum and not have to jump around. Besides a Nikon digital camera is still a Nikon camera. Now if these articles could be cross posted automatically into a Digital forum that might make both of us happy.

  6. As a follow up to Bob's comments, I purchase items off of e-bay fairly regulary (3 or 4 items a month) and frequently use Paypal. I have never had any problem but I run into quite a few folks that flat out refuse to use Paypal. A popular service that a large number of people seem to use is <A HREF="http://www.c2it.com">http://www.c2it.com</A>. This service is run by citibank (an actual bank!). I have not signed up but their fees are listed on their website as: <P><PRE>

"c2it charges transaction fees for sending money in the U.S and internationally.

When sending cash to someone in the U.S, c2it will charge a fee equal

to 2% of your transaction amount, with a minimum fee of $0.30.

When sending money by c2it internationally, c2it will charge $10 per

International Check and $10 per International Direct Deposit. For a

Banamex money transfer c2it will charge $10 for either the Cash Pick

Up @ Banamex or the Direct Deposit to a Banamex account. In addition

to the transaction fee, any difference between the foreign exchange

rate given to you and the foreign exchange rate received by c2it will

    be kept by c2it."

    </PRE>
