  1. When I was a graduate student at Cornell University taking a photo class, Szarkowski came to our seminar and critiqued the class's work. He was exacting and thoughtful, giving everyone in the class his full attention. Later that same day he gave an inspiring talk on the history of photography. His book, "Mirrors and Windows" is one I take out again and again for inspiration. His voice will be missed.
  2. "With a Pentax you can fully meter with older manual focus lenses. This is something the Nikon will not do and the Lumix will not"

While this may be true for the D80, it is not true of the D200 which accepts and works quite nicely with earlier MF lenses. Your statement makes it sound like Nikon (in general) digital do not accept MF lenses, which is, as a general statement, not true.

  3. Beau,

I've been a fan and admirer of your work precisely because it has a unique, identifiable style. Try to stay in that place internally. And please do let us know when we can see some of the results. BTW, you inspired me to use a Leica again (along, of course, with my D200). In any event, however it goes, keep shooting!

  4. The EOS 3 is not metal or plastic. It's made from Polycarbonate which is closer to plastic than metal, but is extremely strong. The mirror box and innards are made from diecast aluminum. Thanks to all for the posts. I've decided on the EOS 3. After so many years of Nikon, I hope it was the right choice.
  5. Thanks to all who so far have contributed a response to my query. A little more info. I've been a Nikon user for a long time: some manual focus Nikons, but mostly the F100 which I love. I have recently purchased a D60 Canon and thought, since I'm going to now have more Canon lenses, I'd like to have a AF, film body as well. I'm not a pro photographer, but am fairly experienced. I shoot "Arty" pictures, and also do set ups (toys, staged scenes), and, of course with a child, a lot of "catch the moving target" snapshots. What has always impressed me about the F100 is its ruggedness, its fast AF, its ease of use, and its almost always spot-on metering. So I'm looking for the Canon version of the F100. Hope that clarifies a little.
  6. I am using a 105mm Micro-Nikkor f/4.0 (AI) on my FM2 and find that at

some distances one half of the split-image on my focusing screen goes

dark gray to black. Although focusing is not impossible, it is more

difficult. This doesn't happen with any other Nikkor lenses on this

body. Could it be that I need a different focusing screen? Has

anyone else ever exprienced this problem? It is an f/4.0 Micro, not

    a 2.8.

  7. All of the responses posted thus far have been thoughtful and make explicit many of the thoughts that were lurking in my mind when I posed the original question. But part of the questions remains unanswered: Has anyone seen any posted photos using the Leica glass/R2 combination?
