1.
I just ran into a problem today with my Sigma 15-30mm D EX lens which I use on my Nikon D90. When I hold my camera in the vertical position, I can't auto focus with any of the focus points, it just searches forward fully and then back fully. Horizontally, everything works perfectly. I have two other Sigma lenses which do not have any issues at all shooting vertically. Up to today, the lens aquired veritcal focus without a problem.

Does the 15-30 lens need to go in for maintenance? Does it need some adjustment? Has anyone had this issue before?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

  2.
I've just purchased a Dell Studio laptop which has a 15.6” High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife™(glossy screen). The video card is a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. The default screen colour is slightly blue and overall colours are very oversaturated. I've tried adjusting the included controls which allow red/green/blue adjustments for gamma, brightness and contrast with only slight success.
Before I invest in a calibration tool I would like to know if it is possible to get fair results with this type of screen if I calibrate it properly? Is this a type of screen which shows a wider gamet of colour hence the oversaturated look compared to my old laptop? I'm not looking for perfect, just reasonable colour.
Please, any advice from someone with experience with this would be very appreciated. I love the laptop, but the oversaturated colours and the bluish tint are depressing. Can this be adjusted to a reasonable level?

  3.
I highly recommend ProShow Producer or ProShow Gold for creating Slide Show presentations if you have a PC. Producer is the professional version, Gold is standard version. Check out the site, which has some amazing presentations from pros using the software.
4. Hi Michael,

I purchased ACDSee Pro 2.0 and it worked perfect. I was emailed on Sept 26th of this year by ACDSee that there is a free updated to 2.5 which I upgraded to. So it's the latest version. I've just emailed ACDSee support back for next steps to resolve this issue. I'd like ti find out if I'm the only one with this issue, or is it a bug in the new 2.5 version that needs to be resolved.

    Thanks for your advise!

  5. I'd like to know if anyone has had this issue and how they resolved it. When running the Auto slide show option,

about half of the slide have rows of black, white or coloured pixes. A lot of them. This occurs no matter if it's a NEF

RAW file or a jpeg. My jpeg files can be 5mb or up to 10mbs, and my NEFs are around 9 to 10mbs. I don't have the

issue if the slides are very small, such as 100kbs. I didn't have this issue when I have version 2.0.

I contacted ACDSee support and emailed them a screenshot from the slide show, which I've attached here as well.

They suggested that I delete a registery key for ASDSee and restart. I did this and still have the same problem

Everything else works great. Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it. I'd like to be able to show slide

shows of my work, but can't if this persists.

    Thanks for any help.
00R3sF-75865684.jpg.9a1a2c9b9378aad5a1d982face77e219.jpg

  6. I believe you are referring to the Autofocus area mode, Custom setting #2 (Custom Settings Menu, 02 AF-area mode, Auto-area AF). When you have this setting selected, the camera will atomatically select the focus point or points. In this mode you will see multiple focus points selected all at once. Keep in mind that when you select this mode, you are not selecting the focus points, the camera is making the selections based on the scene for you.
  7. I have a Nikon D80, which I absolutely love. I'm finding it to be a great

camera. I realize that the D80 doesn't have rubber seals around the knobs and

other openings like a D200 has so I'm a bit concerned with taking the camera

out in extreme cold like sub zero winter weather. Am I being too cautious?

Can any D80 owners pass on their experiences and suggestions to keep my winter

outings great experiences rather than potencially damaging my camera.

  8. I have come across the same apparent "desateration". What I believe it is that when you view the your image on your camera LCD screen, you are viewing it the sRGB colurspace. When you load the image into Lightroom it converts the image in the "ProPhoto RGB" colour space, which has a much larger colour range or gamut. Once you adjust your white balance and saturate a few colours, I find I need to kick up orange some times, you will be pretty close to what you want. One thing to keep in mind is that if you want to view your exported image with the same kick you give it in Lightroom, select sRGB when you export. sRGB is for images destined for web use, AdobeRGB and ProPhotoRGB are extended ranges geared to printing.
  9. I recommend that you change your colour space/mode to Adobe RGB if you are after excellent quality prints. This gives you a larger colour space. If you are shooting for the web the sRGB colour space/mode will suffice. This is the advice of Scott Kelby, well-known Adobe photoshop author. I'm reading his Lightroom book now.

Be aware that these settings only are applied to jpegs, and to the view on the camera LCD. The settings are not applied to RAW (.NEF) files in camera. That has to be done in a RAW converter program such as Nikon Capture NX or Lightroom.

One thing I strongly suggest for a new D80 owner is to buy the Magic Lantern DVD Guide for the D80. It goes through all of settings and camera fuctions including how to get your White Balance perfect! I use the advice on the DVD along with a small, portable white balance reflector called the Colour Balance Coach. It really makes a difference!

I hope you are enjoying your D80 as much as I am mine. It's a great camera!

  10. Hi Nema, I've just started shooting RAW myself so I may not have the proper answer for you. I believe that changes to an NEF file in Capture NX are not applied until you save the file as a jpeg or tiff. I would recommend saving the file as a TIFF in Capture and then opening that TIFF file in PS CS3.If you save the original file with the changes as a NEF, you still are not applying the changes, they are just selections that are showing when viewed in Capture NX (non-destructive to your original file).
  11. I've just purchased a Nikon D80, and I've very interested in shooting and

processing photos in the NEF/RAW format. There are a few computer programs that

I've been researching that look interesting. I'd love opinions on these

programs or other suggestions from photographers who have experience in this

    area. Thanks.

The programs that I've found are:

    Nikon Capture NX

    Adobe Lightroom

    ACDSee Pro

  12. I thinking of upgrading to a Nikon D200, But I'm concerned that I will have

problems using one of my favourite lenses that I use with my Nikon F80. The

Sigma 28-70 f2.8 zoom lense designed for film cameras. My question is will this

lense cause any problems with the edges of the digital image? Possibly making

them soft or vignetted? I've heard that at 28mm it is not an issue. Wider than a

    28mm will have issues.
