The lighting in this photo is completely unmanipulated. I think the
lighting is what "makes" this photo, which emphasizes the pointing
monk.

You are absolutly right. The original image was completely uncropped. This cropped version emphasises the natural light on the central monk to a greater extent. Thanks for the comment

It's amazing that he stood so still during that long exposure. The print must be exceptional. Really a great portrait.
Maybe we'll run into him again during our upcoming China workshop;-)
Even if we don't, there are plenty more characters to photograph in China!

Card playing and gambling are common activities at funerals in Sichuan
province, China. These funrerals usually last a few days to a week.
More of a celebration of life for the guests than Pure mourning.
Immediate family members are encouraged to eat a vegetarian diet,
rather than flesh, for a few days during the mourning period.
