What a nice natural portrait... great expression and DOF.

I would like it with a little more contrast. Seems to be a little too much mid-tone for me. I also would have knocked down the weeds that are around her face, they are a bit distracting...

All in all a good portrait!

I like the grainy floor and shadowed edges...

The screen at the far right edge is a bit distracting. Perhaps an even more direct light, putting the stairs in the background really in the bacground would have been more effective. I like them in the shot, but I think they have too much light on them, giving them too much attention in the photo.

  1. Seems like a very natural portrait... Everyone looks very comfortable, and some genuine expressions. Good use of fill to get rid of the shadows...

My only criticism is that I would have left a little more room around the edges, especially the top, on the crop.

Beautiful light, and a great portrait!

The image has a little too much yellow in it for me, I think it needs to be color ballanced a little better, IMHO.

    Great work though...

  2. Nice soft lighting... A reflector to the right I presume? Great expression and backgroud separation... A very nice portrait.

There are only a couple of things I would have done differently... very small things. The object that is over her right shoulder is a little distracting. I would have repositioned if possible. And second, I would have had her turn her head back toward the camera slightly because of the shape of her face and eyes.

I shoot a lot of kids, and I like this pose. It is often difficult to find an "interesting" way to shoot really young children. I like the pose a lot.

I think it is a shade hot, and you loose some detail in the baby's hair etc...

  3. Ah... The age old fight of finding a pose for someone who can do nothing but lay there. At least you got him to open his eyes and look at the camera...

I wrestle with this all the time, Frank. I have decided that at this young of an age (i.e. unable to sit up, or even push up while on their tummy) it is better to just photo them with their mommies or daddies holding them, and try to make it an intimate portrait for both of them.

Here is one of mine: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1555022

You can tell me what you think...

It seems to me that the main light (camera - right) is a little hot, and you lost the detail in his shirt. His face seems washed, and not very crisp.

    Kindest regards,

    Hanna

Beautiful shot of a beautiful woman... Seems like you captured an intimate moment for her.

I would also prefer a crop about mid way down the window. This would leave it in the picture, but it would not be so dominate.

What the heck are those specles on the left side under her hair??

I like the attitude of the image, but would have left a tad more on top... Perhaps show the hairline??

    Thanks,

    Joe

  4. I like the expression you achieved here, and the choosen crop. It seems very natural for her!

I would like to see more fill on the left side to soften the shadows a bit. Perhaps a good reflector (i.e. a white poster board).
