  1. I spoke with a toCAD representative, who is now the distributor for Contax and who up until recently was a Contax employee, and he confirmed that the Contax line of cameras (other than the recently discountined models) was continuing to be manufactured and supported.
  2. I spoke with a toCAD representative, who use to work for Contax, and he confirmed that Kyocera was continuing to produce and service Contax (other than the ones recently announced as being discontinued). Kyocera complete end of production was limited to Kyocera branded cameras and not Contax.
  3. I would appreciate hearing from individuals who have experience with

the 1.4 teleconverter for the Contax 645. Please advise as to your

experience, including any loss in optical quality. As I have the

140mm lens, I am considering it verses the 210mm lens. Thank you.

  4. Yes, here in Anchorage you can get it at Stewarts Photo on 4th Avenue downtown,

PhotoWright Labs on Fireweed Lane in mid town and sometimes at D&M Photo on

Arctic Blvd also in mid town.

The only place in the southeast along the inside passage is in Juneau at Juneau

Photoworks on Second Avenue in very limited supply.

  5. In an earlier post, I suggested that individuals may want to read the reviews of the Contax 645 on another web site to add to the discussion started here. Unfortunately, I suggested individuals look at the camerareview.com site when the reviews I was referring to were on the photographyreview.com site. As mentioned in my earlier post, many of the reviews come to different conclusions, including the fact that the Contax 645 is faster than the Mamiya AF 645.

  6. The website camerareview.com has ten reviews on the Contax 645, many of which point out that the Contax 645 autofocus is faster than the Mamiya AF 645 as well as the obvious advantages of better integration of autofocus, ziess optics, and other superior features. These reviews, many of which are by professional photographers, come to different conclusions than Tom's conclusions. Since Tom wanted to start a discussion, you may want to read these reviews as part of the discussion.
  7. I would appreciate hearing from individuals who have experience with

the various autofocus lenses for the Contax 645. How does the 35mm

compare with the 45mm, other than the obvious difference in focal

length? How does the 140mm compare with the 210mm, once again other

than the difference in focal length? Finally, if you have

recommendations as to any shops which are offering the Contax 645 at

a better price, please advise. I note that Calmut is no longer

offering its $3400 price for the Contax 645 kit. Thank you. Michael

  8. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually compared the

picture quality when shooting with the Pentax 645 F 45 verses the

Pentax 645 AF 40-80 (?) zoom. It is interesting to note that the

zoom received a higher rating in the lab tests for both optics and

    mechanics. Thanks Michael
