  1. Hi,

I'm going to be in Honolulu in mid June, and then spending the rest of the summer in

New York. What's the best way for me to ship exposed 120 B&W tri-x film? Should I

fedex or UPS it? How should I package the film (i.e. in ziplock bags with drying agents

    or something else)?

On a similar note, does removing the protective foil wrapper make it easier to get a

    handcheck at the airport?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi,

I switched to digital because I was shooting color, almost $500 worth of stuff a

quarter, for my art class. I edit all my work on the computer. It's so great. I think I still

have to work out some kinks in my workflow, but I think, for me a college student, it's

a great solution. I use my Leica as a diary camera with black and white film that I

develop and scan whenever. Also, I get money for covering events. They usually

expect digital images. So now, I get to keep most of it, as oppposed to sinking it all

    to cover film and chemicals.

I think the workflow takes some getting use to. It's great for me because it's a more

efficient use of my time, since as a student, I'm supposed to be "studying" because

    it's "college" :)

  4. Re: Preston Merchant: If you have to get it developed in some faraway clime, the tech has probably seen it before and won't screw it up.

Interesting story: I was in Beijing and tried to get my film souped at Tibet Dipper in the HaiDian area, and the labby looked at my rolls of TMAX 400 and 100, but was utterly confused by Plus-X and Tri-X. He actually called me up later and left a msg to ask for development times for them in Tmax developer. I actually didn't know at the time. But they later developed it in D76, and the negs were great. So yeah, definitely fool-proof.
