I was walking through Best Buy today and spotted a Lowepro messenger-style bag called the Midtown 160. I tried to find it on the Lowepro web site to check out the specs but it's not there. Not on B&H either. Google search only turns up the Best Buy link. Is it possible Lowepro makes this bag specifically for Best Buy?

Just about any electronic equipment should operate wthout any problems at +4 degrees Celsius. This does not sound like a temperature issue to me.

I'm looking for a replacement for my failed Dell 1905FP monitor. Can anyone comment on the Samsung 943T as
compared to the 1905FP, or in general as a lower end option for photo editing? (A high end monitor will have to wait
until the budget recovers from the Canon 5D I just bought.) I prefer the traditional 19" monitor to a wide screen.
-
I have a Dell 19" (non wide screen) that rotates. I use it in vertical mode quite a bit and also use a second smaller monitor. It has worked well for me, but the small monitor has died and the Dell is giving trouble so I am facing some similar decisions.
At work I have a similar 19" Lenovo monitor that also rotates. I prefer to use it in vertical mode also, but have found that I get neck pain when I do so, apparently from tilting my head further back when reading email, etc. I don't notice that problem at home but don't spend 8 hours a day in front of the monitor at home either.

Could this be a focusing issue since the 30D isn't designed to autofocus with the 100-400 plus 1.4x TC? My understanding is the 30D will still attempt to autofocus with the Kenko TC even though autofocus is automatically disabled with the Canon TC.

I've had this lens for several years and use it with the added weight of the optional lens hood. I've never noticed this problem. This lens has been around quite a while and has the reputation of being one of Canon's best consumer zooms. It was not sold as a kit lens until recently (as far as I know.)

With the current rebates I think I've finally convinced myself it's time to give up my EOS 3 for a digital body. The
thing I'm most worried about is giving up the autofocus on my EOS 3. How likely am I to be disappointed with the
autofocus on either the 40D or the 5D compared to the EOS 3?
-
I bought my first Sigma lens for my Elan IIe. When I upgraded to an EOS 3, the Sigma lens was not compatible. At that point it became both my first and last Sigma lens.

So, does using a 1.4x with the pins taped degrade the autofocus any worse than using a polarizer?

I have some very old 3-1/4 by 4-1/4 negatives that I need to scan (as well as
just needing a new general purpose flatbed scanner.) Will the Canon 8800F
accommodate this size negative? I'm not concerned about manual intervention
that might be required as long as the scanner can create a raw scan from a
negative this large.
-
My local Costco will also do negs only for about $2. I get them returned uncut then I cut them at home into strips of 6, which is the longest strip my scanner will take, instead of Costco's standard strips of 4.

Looks like my Dell 1905FP monitor is getting flakely (only 6 months out of
warranty!) Can anyone suggest a good (non-Dell)19" or 20" replacement? Since
this was not in my budget I will probably need to stay under $300 if possible.

When I scan to a tiff file format using NikonScan 4.0, I get a multi-page tiff
image that includes a low resolution thumbnail. Is there any way to force the
file to be saved as a single-page image?
-
Yes, but do they need to make adjustments to maintain a neutral black and white output?
-
If I submit black and white files using the Costco web site, do I increase the
risk of the prints having a color cast if I check the "no adjustments" option?
I don't want the contrast or exposure adjusted. Would using the Dry Creek
profile help insure a neutral print?

Still have the TL-ql that I bought in the PX in 1971, but haven't used it in 6 or 7 years (still wish I had gotten the FTb.) Elan IIe that I call my backup body but never use. EOS 3 that I will not replace until I can get a 5D equivalent that has 45 point AF and f/8 AF capability (i.e. the mythical 3D.)

I have a Dell E510 with 7-in-1 media card reader. Am I supposed to go through
the "Safely remove USB mass storage" procedure before I remove a media card
from the reader? When I do it shuts down the entire card reader and I have to
reboot before it will recognize another memory card.

If you're looking for a Canon body comparable to the F100 you should probably be looking at the EOS3 instead of the Elan7.
-
And I should have said in my question that I already have the EF 1.4X. I'm now trying to decide between the 85 1.8 and the 100 f/2 since the 135 f/2 is too long (and too expensive) for what I would use it for most.
-
Canon says the 1.4X teleconverter is compatible with fixed lenses 135mm and
longer. Does this mean that the 1.4X will not fit on the 100mm f/2 or just
that the optical combination would be substandard?
-
And maybe there is another problem. For many users it may be difficult to tell if their particular copy of a lens is substandard. Mechanical problems might be fairly easy to spot, but degraded optical performance may not be as obvious especially to someone who has less experience with other lenses.

I bought a used EOS 3 a couple of years ago to replace my Elan IIe. The only thing that is keeping me from going digital is that I can't figure out how to transplant the sensor from a 5D into my EOS 3. Until I can do that, I'll keep scanning 400UC and enjoying my EOS 3.
