Richard, the same thing happens around the 2 secs speeds. ONly problem is I can't get it back up to the faster shutter speeds. I think I will have to take it back in to the service centre.
Bummer.
Thanks for your help though

Absolutely. It is 3.5f, serial 2258xxx

Without wanting to appear like a total dumbass, which one is the aperture ring with the groove on it(I assume you don't mean the aperture adjustment wheel)? Found lots of grooves, but I don't think they are the right one.
Thanks

Hi all,
Got a small problem with my Rolleiflex. I have spent money getting
the lens seperated and reset by John Van Stelten. I have had it
serviced and reassembled. I now have it at home and would like to
use itbut I can't seem to set the ap/shutter properly. I have
searched the forums and can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Th aperture settings move smoothly as do the shutter settings,
however the shutter settings won't move out of the "green zone" (ie
2-60 sec). I can't seem to get into the "red zone" speeds of 1 to
1/500. Also it seems that there is some coupling between the
shutter and aperture settings.
Soooo my question is have I accidently changed a setting that
prevents me getting into the "red zone" shutter speeds, or is it
jammed?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers

OK, just to update:
Seems the reason my repairer was concerned was the two-lens element had a metal mount that was beveled into the lenses, so he couldn't separate them. However having spoken to John at Focal Point, it looks like he has seen a lot of these. He lathes off the metal and and then separates the lenses and remounts them.
As for running a film through; the balsam bloom is quite pronounced. I would like to have a very clear lens and I plan on using this camera for many years to come. But it is a good point, no need to unnecessarily waste moola....

OK, now that I think about it, I think it was the decay of the balsam that he was refering to. Thing I don't understand is that he initially said that if it was a decay problem it would be repairable, but he now says then lens is stuffed. I will need to re-check with him now.
Thanks for the focal point ref. I have emailed them for an idea of prices.

OK, So I inherited a Rolleiflex 3.5F (body 225) in what looked like
great shape plus some mutar lenses.
I took it in to get serviced and I have discovered that the balsam on
the taking lens has bloomed (I think) and it is basically cannot be
repaired. But apparently it can be replaced! But the chances of
anyone selling new replacement lenses must be very slim.
So does anyone know of any second hand dealers who would deal in
Rolleiflex parts rather than cameras as a whole. The rest of the
camera works perfectly, but the taking lens is knackered.
Does any one have any tips for me as to what I should do next (like
give up)?
Cheers

Thanks guys,
I have spoken to Brian and he has been very helpful. I am going to pop in and run through the options with him. FYI he also mentioned that he thinks there is a bay 3 to bay 2 adaptor ring somewhere.

Arghh
one more thing. This is a long shot, but are there bay 2 to bay 3 adaptors?

Hello,
I have just happily inherited an early 1960s Rolleiflex 3.5f with a
set of accessories (filters, hood, macro lens). I also inherited
some Bay 3 mutar lenses. Turns out my grandfather was a MF nut and
he had a 2.8F a 3.5F and a Hassie. The 3.5F is the only one left as
the others were sold when he died.
I have noticed that the viewing lens has some fungus on it (the
shooting lens look fairly clear) and I will get it serviced as well
even though it appears in otherwise mint condition.
I live in London and I noticed that there are some posts here about a
good repair shop called Camera Repair Services in Islington. The
phone numbers I have for them don't seem to work now, and I wondered
if someone had another recommendation for a reputable London repair
centre for Rolleiflexes.
Also as a side question what are the bay 3 mutar lenses worth? I may
sell them to finance the service.
Cheers

Rolleiflex 3.5F - Shutter/Aperture coupled, stuck?
in Medium Format

Just to round off this story, I took the camera back in and it appears that the aperture selector was dry, which was causing an internal pin to stick (or something along those lines). All it needed was a bit of lube.
All up and running now.
Thanks for all your input
