The first pic was printed using Aperture. I tried the same one on Photoshop CS3, and the
green cast is now a red cast! I have never seen anything like this and I now wonder if it is not
a problem related to Leopard OS ?
-
The diagnostic print shows no particular problem.
-
My HP 90 exhibits a strange behavior. When printing, the color on the first few inches of the print seem
fine, but then I get a strong green cast. I tried all the tools offered by the maintenance tool, to no avail.
Can someone help identify the problem?
I am using mac os X, the inks tanks are full or almost full. The HP has been disconnected for about 4
months, as I moved overseas.
Printing other kind of documents, like web pages, some text with colored charts poses no problem, the
colors are appropriate.

Can we expect a 21mm or 24mm Summarit?

The story is in French.

I have been using Leica glass (35 summicron and 60 macro-elmarit) on my 5D! I love the combination. The images have another signature when compared to L lenses. What wide angle (24 or wider) would work on the 5D?
i have seen many reports that wide angles are not compatible with the 5D.

Bob,
I have 6 Leica lenses (21, 24, 35 summicron Apsh , 50 1.4 Asph, 75 summilux and 90 elmarit)...plus VG 12mm & VG 35mm 1.2: unless Leica send me a filter for each and a waiver for their coding, I don't see how they will convince me to buy an M8 ! I ll continue to use my M7 and M6 until Leica comes with a solution that works for me!
-
Bob,
The point is that Leica should expand its customers base beyond those who used to trick their M3 20 or 40 years ago! For those used to the M, putting a filter might be an acceptable solution, but to expand to new customers and professionals, that is going to be tough. Let's see what the market will decide 3 to 6 months down the road...and what Leica's response will be eventually.
-
What matters for Leica is to sell camera outside the circle of Leica aficionados. Leica has to bring in and convince existing users of Canon or Nikon DSLR that the M8 is a better alternative. Now imagine a DSLR user ready to sweep her plastic card for an M8 being told that, by the way, to get the best out of the camera you need to get an Infra Red filter, otherwise you might encounter some magenta or purple colors on some fabrics...the filter is $100. How many will run away? Most of them have used DSLR or SLR and have never encountered such a problem and never heard anyone with such problems, even on their $300 digicam. Even though this would be the best solution to get the best picture in the world, it would need a lot of convincing and marketing to bring in customers by the thousands.
I was on the line for a M8, but last week I decided I ll wait a few more months, whatever the solution is. I canceled my order and got my downpayment back. In the meantime....films have never been so good!

Very nice review. Did you post some pictures at some point? This could be the "M" digital... to bad I cannot put my M lenses on it.

A very interesting review of the Leica M8 (in French) with many 100 % crop and a
comparison between C1 and Adobe ACR (the first one being much better on the M8).
Banding and IR-related purple is mentioned, and the reviewer confirms what
others have said: a firmware cannot fix this.
-
At a minimum the review should have mentioned existing problems and that, when contacted, Leica promised they would be addressed. Now not only Leica went ahead and shipped units they knew were prone to some defects, but they acted irresponsibly with the reviewer, who now is being criticized. If these problems had been published earlier, if all actors had been more candid, Leica would have been in a position to fix these problems before shipping the units.

Exactly why rush? Leica is now working on a solution, some forum reports that next Leica's Newsletter due tomorrow will discuss the issues.

Sean Read has reported Leica's first official comments on the M8 color cast and
WB problems:

I am surprised that, while first users experience of the M8 are all over other
Leica-dedicated fora, this forum is very quiet and silent! Maybe you are all out
shooting with your new M8! Lucky ones!

And that the "kiss of the hotel de ville" was staged, using models...but that people who found themselves in the frame did seek compensation!

There is a very interesting article on Doisneau in Le Monde, and the business
behind his photographs. (in French!)

Thanks for the crop... impressive!
Fist? You mean first but first what?
-
Travis,
Does it mean stores will start stocking them? Or is it still one sample for some VIP photographers? Thanks for the pics. The one at high ISO looks clean, how does it look viewed at 100 percent?
-
Obviously one is in London, based on the pics posted on DPREVIEW. So I guess some units should be arriving any time now in the US!
-
Where are you? In the US?

According to some posts on the Rangefinder forum, M8s are for sale at some
store, but not clear where in the World though!
