I am about to purchase a new Nikon D700. I am a little confused about the best way to power it. I thought I would buy the MB-10 power pack/grip. As I read various articles and posts, I see people mentioning using EN-EL3e or EN-EL4e. The EN-EL3e seems to be the one that is most common. I welcome any advice about this.
Also, will the SB-800 work with the D700? I see the SB-900 and 600 listed as being compatible, but not the 800. I wonder if that was just an omission from the various articles/posts I've seen.
Thanks for your input! - Anna

I was a big user of the Epson Panoramic Paper (not roll). Recently, I have
tried to find it in stores and on-line, but I can't find it anywhere. I have a
particular image for which that paper was perfect. Can anyone tell me where to
buy that paper?
Thanks,
Anna

You guys are awesome - I can't wait to go home tonight to: 1) deal with the diffuser and 2) try resetting to default. I just can't believe how you all responded so quickly. Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge. I will let you know how I make out!
Thanks again!

I am trying to learn more about my SB800, as I can't seem to get
flash just right. I use it with a Nikon D100. According to the
manual, the SB 800 should automatically set the zoom according to
the focal length of the lens. If, however, there is an "M" above
the word "zoom" on the LCD, then the zoom is in manual mode. No
matter what I do, I cannot change the zoom from manual mode. The
manual says to press a particular button (looks like it has three
trees on it)"several" times, but no matter how many times I press
the button the "M" does not go away. I tried turning the camera and
flash off and then turning them back on, but that also does not
work. Can anyone help?

So for you folks with insurance, does your general liability insurance cover you in the event that the Bride/Groom believe that your pictures are substandard and since a wedding is a one-time event that time cannot be recaptured? I've been investigating different levels of insurance and a couple of agents told me that general liability covers no such thing. There is, of course, a more expensive option that does and it goes to about $1500 per year. I haven't had such a situation, but I imagine it does happen. Better to be covered!

Thank you Adam and David. I will now study the SB 800 manual! I have read it before, but am obviously missing something. Having confirmation that the equipment should work the way I expected it to is a big help.

It seems like no matter what I do with flash, I can't get it right.
I spoke to someone last weekend who said that the SB800 doesn't work
with the Nikon D100 - specifically, it has to be manually operated.
The suggestion was to buy the D200. My questions are: 1) Is this
true? 2) If it is, which flash works best with the D100? 3) I am
having a terrible time getting my flash right - usually overexposing
things. Where can I go, what can I read to get better at this?
Thanks,
Anna

I have a D100 and an SB 800. I need a flash bracket and a synch
cord. Can someone tell me what the magic combination is? Which
synch cord should I buy?

Start with a business plan. It's not a sexy creative thing to do, but it is the thing that can guide your business. It tells others and yourself that you are serious about your business. Also, if you seek investors, a business plan will be required. In addition, you must obtain professional liability insurance, especially for weddings. I've heard of rates starting at about $600/year for about $1.5 million in coverage.
Your ideas regarding marketing are good. There are others, including attending Bridal Shows, joining the chamber of commerce, developing relationships with florists, etc. Good luck!

What is meant by "Lift the photo?"

Thank you Edward. I have the Turbo 2x2. What you described is exactly what happened. The display on the flash went off completely and the first LED light on the Turbo went out. I had this problem back in May and I tried recharging for 72 hours. I had the same problem again. I can't say for sure that I had fresh batteries in the flash, so I will try again and this time I'll be sure to load fresh batteries in the flash. Thanks again!

In December I purchased a Quantum Turbo power supply. It was
intended to power my Nikon SB800 flash and my Nikon D100. I do
weddings and other social events and I was tired of running out of
batteries at important moments. I spent about $600.00 total to help
solve my power needs. Well, the power supply is only lasting about
an hour before it stops powering flash. It powers the camera,
although the data on the LCD info screen starts to flash. I have
followed all of the instructions (making sure it is properly charged,
but not overcharged, etc). This couldn't be how this was intended to
work. As it is, I am no better off than when I use batteries. In
fact, I'm worse off, because my expectation was that I would be able
to shoot an entire day using this power supply. Can someone please
tell me if my expectations were wrong or perhaps there is something I
can do to fix this?
Thanks,
Anna

I would like to use my SB800 mounted on my Nikon D100 as a master and
my Vivitar 285 as a slave. My objective is just to learn how to do
this. I've read the manuals and I can't find an answer. It could be
due to the fact that I am so new to this aspect of photography that
I'm not looking in the right places. Will the fact that my Nikon
D100 doesn't support CLS on the SB800 prohibit me from doing this?
Any information or pointers to information would be much appreciated.

When other people tell me "there's a good shot, there's a good shot!" I've actually had friends offer to accost strangers who they think I should shoot. I HATE THAT! Most often I don't oblige them.
Having to work in a non-photographic business to support the hobby.
Having to work so very hard to find a local mentor who can honestly review my work and help me improve.
That I didn't pursue a degree in photography when I was young. I'm not in a position to indulge that particular fantasy now. I am pursuing an advanced degree in a pharmaceutical field, because I am, afterall, a responsible adult :-)

Steph, thanks for posting this information. It's really useful to me as I'm researching alternatives to standard album types. Thanks again!

Shun, do you know what the formula is to determine how a non-digital wide-angle lens will convert to a digital camera? I was disappointed that my wide angle lens that I used for a film camera was much less wide on the digital camera. Thanks for any information you can provide. I have searched this website for this information and just can't find it. Take care!
