More and more customer request digital files regardless of the type of work
involved. I still have a technikardan with full set of schneider lenses and
accessories but no digiback. I used to take that camera for all tabletop studio
and of course architectural works and the workflow consisted of scanning the
film. I'm now thinking about dropping that equipment and have it replaced by
some Canon 5D or 1Ds.
This might sound strange but i don't have the money to invest into a Back and
Digilenses and the quality of the Filmscans are not always satisfying either.
My Idea is to shoot with DSLR and then photoshop directly the raw-file
considering the huge possibilities that CS3 offers and the huge resolution at
low price available (1Ds 22MP for 8k). It seems clear to me that the the Canon
wouldn't reach the degree of possibilities and flexibility the Linhof offers
but I'm actually wondering if customers really care and if its possible to
reach the same level of quality (given the case that customer wants a file as
final product).
I'd appreciate some insight from you.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts

I don't know why but i doubt the DP1 will be launched any time soon. Sigma is still having trouble with the SD14, does anybody knows about market introduction schedule?
-
From a pawn shop the amount might be ok, at ebay expect to get at least 400$ and even more if the 70-300 is an APO. Andy

I would consider buying a used Body on Ebay, it's certainly less expensive than a electronic repair at Sigma. Even it's just a connection that got loose inside the body they will have to dissassemble and reassemble the whole thing and this takes time at your expense. A used Body at Ebay will cost you between 500 and 600 US$ i think (around 400Euro in Germany), maybe you can ask Sigma for a free estimate? If you sell the broken Body you will also get a few bucks from somebody who need parts or is skilled enough to fix it. I don't know how it works with insurance claims, sorry.

Does anyone can recommend a lab working with film of all sizes including decent
enlargements especially from medium format negatives color und bw?
I'm not looking for a frontier lab style one hour outlet but for a facillity
catering the pro and able to listen to special need. thanks

Is there still a maker of new scannings backs beside Betterlight?

I do have a similar problem because i do have a technikardan 23 and i want to go digital with the said hasselblad back adapter. Are the Schneider lenses built in the 80's still okay for current backs with 16MP (eg. Imacon one shot) or i am supposed to invest in the Digitar line of lenses in order to get top notch results (resolution, fine details, corner sharpness...)?

I'm in Vegas quite soon and I need to buy some 120 rolls of superia
reala asa100. Rolls must be out of the fridge and fresh enought
(about 2 years to expire). Also I need to have processed these films
but strongly accurate C-41 and professionally, no 1hr quicksnap-
lab !!! I'll have to rely on that 100% because some of the shots cant
be reproduced. Does somebody has some experience ? Also very
apreciate recomendation of Vegas local Professional. Thanks, every
coment welcome. Andy

I had no possibility to compare both systems up to now (hard work to carry both ey...). I went to Lisboa Portugal recently with the Fuji an the results seemed to me to being just fine (enlargement 30x40cm).But I'm planning a longer trip to Asia later this year and want to have best possible results and I'm not sure what to take. The distagon is the modell without FLE (I thought the improvements due to the floating elements only affect pictures taken short distance?). Is there an easy method to compare both systems just by taking some same pictures ? How to compare them? Do I have to enlarge and see?
-
Hello,
usually when I'm travelling I used to backpack my hassy with the
distagon for landscape. Together with a lightweight tripod I obtained
very good results with no limitation concerning the ability to
enlarge the negatives. Recently I purchased a used GA645w and I was
wondering If I can expect the same contrast and sharpness. The fuji
is of course much more easy to carry and to handle, especially when
travelling. Does somebody has made some experience with both ? Does
the Fuji offer the same degree of picture quality ? Thanks for your
contributions.

The CB serie doesn't have any -lack of Quality- Problems. The serie has been discontinued because of marketing considerations.

I have to agree with Philip s arguments. I can't understand why some Poeople here literally seems to -hate- the CB 160. Once again, only considering practical results, I can't confim that the CB160 is any worse, in any way, than any other Zeiss lens I had on my camera (except the known limitations e.g. Speed 4,8 and F setting)

Hello Rodrigo, please keep in mind that the use of a stable tripot is essential for top results in medium format. I understand that this is a serious restriction when travelling but at speeds of 1/125 and below dont expect beeing able to evaluate the performance of any lens. You can get good results by chance but thats it. My CF50 has no Problems at al and I'm obtaining best results, also in the corners, so you should maybe have double checked yours. Regards

Hello Wiley,
I recently bought a CB 160 for the equivalent of US$ 1500 and I think thats great bargain. The results are just great and as a professional photographer I didn't noticed any compromises in quality compared to the other CF lenses I have. In my opinion you should better go for the CB, the C are just a little old now (check if the lens is T* coated), and nobody knows actually how long Hasselblad will by able to fix the compur shutter.
