  1. Chris, if you can afford to wait a bit, hawks migrate in the spring and fall along very well defined corridors.

For example, all the hawks (approximately - grins) from Northern Ontario and Quebec, move south to the great lakes and then follow the northern shore of Lake Ontario until they get to Niagara or Windsor areas to cross and continue south. In High Park in Toronto (the largest green space in Toronto), the congregate in the hundreds - and all varieties too - in September. I'm not sure about northern migration, but fall is absolutely wonderful. During the rest of the summer, as you drive West from Toronto along 401 I guarantee that you'll be able to count 40 hawks before you get to Guelph. The highway seems to attract them (along with the Niagara Escarpment).

Come visit next fall, you won't be disappointed.

  2. You can do some quick, repeatable tests with your methods of reducing / measuring shake by affixing a laser pointer to the top of your camera and shine it on a dot on the wall at some distance. Have somebody else trigger the shutter while you watch the dot on the wall. You could create a grid on any computer/printer to help you observe the movement of the dot. Any shake is easily measurable and repeatable. You could even use a little trigonometry and calculate the actual shake of the camera. Certainly more measurable than analysing photos 2 days later. Plus you don't waste film.

    Cheers all,
