I use the Minolta 3xi, AF 50/2.8 macro lens and 1200AF-N Macro Flash. My experiences with this flash unit are wonderful. I think that Nikon SB-21A Or SB-21B TTL macro flash is better than SB-27.

The birds don't exposure for you take a photography and they usually escape from you . For this reason If you take a bird photography you
must use a 400 mm or longer telephotolens. In addition to telelens,200
or 400(better) ASA film must be used.

You can use extension tube sets or close up lens set. In my opinion; extension tube sets are better than close up lens. I expose for +1 stop at f/2.8 -3.5 or 4 in A mode (my camera is Minolta x-700 and 50/2.8 lens with extension tube sets). My flowers are very nice.
