    The sap of life

Your main subject is well focused. I might have cropped out the large red flower on the left, and maybe the brownish object on the bottom, as they seem to distract the eye away from the most important elements of the image.

I like your placement of the flower in the composition. The image could have used more exposure, I think. The diagonal stalk seems to be somewhat of a visual distraction to me.

A well executed photograph. I mostly agree with the previous individual's comments. I think the sky is a little washed out. The blue sky could use a little more color saturation, and the whitest parts of the clouds seem to be slightly overexposed.

Nicely done. Good composition and focus is tack sharp. I might have boosted the saturation of the blue sky a little bit, both in the sky and in the reflection of the sky.
  1. In answer to Mr. Brill's question about the reflection - no, it was not photoshopped, that is how the image came out. I used a long lens together with a tele-extender to get very limited depth of field. My apologies for taking so long to reply to your question.

  2. Peter, thanks for your kind words. I will tell you how I get such vivid colors. Its not that I boost the saturation per se, the colors are the result of processing the image in the "LAB COLOR " mode instead of the RGB mode. I almost always use this mode because of the richer, more true to reality colors that I get. Of course I eventually change it back to RGB mode for final output. Also, I wsn't going to mention it, but since you brought up the subject of Photoshop manipulation, the light mist and a slight shadow or two were added to this image to add a little more interest. I used a Photoshop plug in called: Mystical Lighting to get those effects. (I hope that little revelation doesn't diminish anyone's opinion of it. In my humble opinion, if you can improve on an image either in camera or later in Photoshop, by all means do so! It's the end product that is important, not the tools that you used to make it.)
