1.
Hi Steve
I have one of the Horseman SW612 manuals and I have to say that it is very "minimalist". It is written in both English and Japanese, and is only 12 pages long including both covers. If there was something specific that you wanted to know I'd be pleased to answer any questions about it.
Best to you for the new year
2.
I've just, in the past few days, discovered the micro 4/3 cameras from Panasonic & Olympus. Ive been a dedicated Nikon film camera user for many years (also a Nikon P&S digital). Ive found out that there are aftermarket adapters available to use Nikon MF SLR lenses on the Panasonic & Olympus M4/3 bodies.

Does anyone here use the adapted MF lenses on the m4/3 bodies? How does it work out? Is focusing a problem?

So far the GF1 body appeals to me, but it may not be the best choice for using MF lenses. I'd appreciate hearing opinions about these cameras with adapted lenses.

Thanks for any help/opinions.
3.
Hi:
Ive been using a Nikon Coolpix 5400 for nearly 5 years now. It is my first digital camera and Ive always been disappointed with its shutter delay which makes it difficult for me to take anything remotely like an action shot such as panning with a moving car or stopping a moving car.

Ive been thinking its time to consider moving up to a newer digital camera--probably a higher end P&S as I dont really want to invest several thousand dollars in a DSLR that will be obsolete inside of a year.

So do modern Coolpixes not have the shutter delay that I experience with my Coolpix 5400?

Thanks for any help or comments.
4.
Hi Robert:
I have a Horseman 980 which I believe is a later model version of your camera. You should be able to find a number of 80x80 boards on "the auction site" using horseman as a search term.
Lenses from 65mm to maybe about 240mm can be used on flat lens boards with that camera. I think the bellows draw is about 250mm. Horseman branded lenses were offered from 65mm thru 180mm.
Also the later style roll film backs seem to be easier to use and turn up more frequently.
Hope this helps.
5. The front of the finder turns. The knurled ring on the front of the finder unscrews from the portion that turns. Once the knurled ring is removed, the finder mask can be replaced and the knurled ring screwed back on.

Sorry for the late response to your question.

  6. Hi John:

I just looked at this thread and your pix. The Copal shutter you show is a Polaroid Copal, and apparently not the same size as a regular Copal 0. I have a 65mm Mamiya Sekor from a Mamiya Press that I use on my 6x9 Horseman, in a Seikosha S shutter. The elements from that lens screw directly into a Graflex Copal 0 that came with an 80mm Noritar lens that I also use on my Horseman. Just in case that Graflex Copal was something out of the ordinary, I tried it in another Copal 0 and elements that fit the Seikosha S shutter screwed into the other Copal 0 shutter.

    Hope this is helpful.

  7. Hello:

    I recently purchased a 105mm Nikkor M f3.5 lens for my 6x9 camera. I

havent been able to find the specs on this lens, like image circle,

filter size etc. since it was apparently made for a short period of time.

    Can anyone help? Thanks.

  8. Hi

Got to thinking a Mamiya Universal would be a nice medium format

choice for me. As my thinking progressed, I got to wondering if any

modern LF lenses in shutter could be readily used with Mamiya focusing

    helicals.

Anybody done this or considered it?

    Thanks

  9. Consider also some of the lesser known spots in the area. Snow Canyon State Park just north of St George UT and Valley Of Fire St Pk off I15 between St George and LasVegas. Also off I15 north of St G is the Kolob Canyon section of Zion.

We found small crowds that time of year.

Last half of Sept in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons has nice color.

    Enjoy

  10. I also noticed that the Horseman USA website no longer lists the 135mm lens as being available. Robert White in the UK doesnt either. Your above description would go a long way to explain the removal of the lens from their line up.

Too bad, as a "normal" perspective would be useful with the SW 612 camera.

Also too bad is that Horseman will not sell you (or me) a lens cone of any focal length without the lens.

  11. Thanks for all the responses so far. I should have been more explicit in my plans. I live in Western NY, so I plan to enter Canada at Niagara Falls.

    1. Head North from Hamilton to Bruce Peninsula

    2. East and North to Sudbury

    3. West to Sault Ste Marie

    4. On to Thunder Bay

    5. Reenter US at International Falls

    6. Continue west to Rocky Mtn area.

Algonquin Prov Park will be for a separate trip.

I assume I should plan for about 5 days for this portion of the trip, but we are flexible in our timing.

    Thanks again.

  12. My wife and I are headed to the western US about mid-September, and

for a different route, I have decided to drive around the northern

    side of the Great Lakes.

What weather and temperatures can we expect in mid to late September?

Any recommended photo locations around Georgian Bay and the north side

    of Lake Superior.

    Thanks

  13. Hi June

You may use the groundglass to preview your picture. It is placed on the back of the camera in place of the film magazine. The image on the groundglass will be upside down, and somewhat difficult to see. I recommend a dark cloth and a magnifying loupe to check your image.

My SW612 does not have the shift feature, but you can again use the groundglass to see if the vertical lines are straight.

When the image is what you want, remove the groundglass and replace it with the film magazine. Dont forget to remove the dark slide before taking a picture.

Enjoy it, its a great camera.
