  1. I agree Assateage is a great location. WIld horses in the Marsh and on the beach. There is also a wide variety of birds in the marsh area, including red-wing blackbirds, herons, willets, canadian geese, a variety of ducks and more.

     

    I recently visited the marsh there just south of highway 611 right after the bridge - there really isn't any paths offering easy access to the norhtern marsh lands in this area - you have to park near the ranger station at the camp area, and walk south about a quarter mile, then cross the roads east through the tree thickets. Once on the other side, you probably won't see any other humans at all. That is what I like most. But bring shoes that you don't mid getting muddy, and bring plent of insect repellant to ward off the nasty ticks.

     

    I've heard that farther south along Assateage Island (State Park), there is an area that has managed trails and pathways leading through the Marsh, but I bet there are a bit more poeple there.

     

    You might not see many horses at first, but after you've hung around for a while, they seem to sprout up all over. Just don't get too close, they are not tame.
