Jeez. >>Both times they dived from kitchen counter to the hardwood floor<<
Mr Lin - you're too much. What about your digital cameras - any problems there?
-
I like it Dennis. Looks like law people approaching a disaster scene. But I've always been impressed by your scan quality and this one looks mushy.

>>Then I read somewhere that recalibration is needed <<
That would be in the 5400 manual, of course? And using the Minolta software.

Hi Dennis, I remember that stair - the river's right behind it and that's Algiers on the other side!

My trusty old Nikkormat, now replaced by M Leica.

And now they'll be putting on the screws.

Erik, because I believe all the posts I've read before and after buying one that say it makes good scans, as I've experienced myself. And I realise my experience is one of a minority, though it's still valid for posting.

You may be able to get better edge sharpness by setting it manually at a strategic point between the center and the edge and hoping that DOF will cover it all.

Take it back immediately. I've had three or four of them and I'm still waiting for one that works. My first one was dead on arrival but replacements lasted for a couple of weeks before conking out. I believe there is sample-to-sample variation in the noise levels. Many people are happy with theirs and the one I sent back for repair (after refusing a brand new replacement I couldn't get to scan well) did produce nice scans. I've been waiting for its return for three weeks. Those things are made in Taiwan and they're not sorted out.
I strongly recommend having a drum scan made of a favourite negative for comparison purposes.

Meanwhile, just around the corner...

Right, just waiting to join the 2003 parade on Santa Monica Blvd from a side street.

I enjoyed looking at Shelby's and Steve's pix. Thanks for bringing them up. Steve's Auschwitz stuff was right on the money.

Harry Geron: once again: Relax.

Take it easy, Harry, Thomas is just clearing up a problem he posted earlier. I was interested because I also had some 28mm .58 M negatives where in the heat of the action I had excluded people's feet. Thanks Thomas.

You must apply pressure in the middle of the softie (and not at the edge) to avoid snagging.

Also to me. And Mr Shepherd sounds like fool.

>>tree that saved my life possibly...<<
Too bad.

Thank you Ralph. That makes it clear we should de-saturate our scans. But why is is that neighbour negatives come out with different colour casts?
-
Thanks Josh, now I can rest in peace.

>>no thread with a contribution by him surivives<<
That might exlain what happens when you leave this life, but what I want to know is: what happens to your Photo.net pix folder when that happens? I mean, nobody's going to write in with a notice that the e- mail address is defunct, and the shots are uploaded.

I like that.
