I went through your article, Bob. Most useful & i finally understand what affects what. I guess I was confused by statements stressing that printing at less than 300 dpi produces mediocre results. Seven and others, thank you all for your help!
-
Thank you all for your help. Thank you, Bob. I tried to delete it and/or resize several times before and the system wouldn't let me. I thought this has something to do with the pow but it worked out now. At low resolution, the quality of a print should be pathetic but at 150 dpi you can make a 4x6 that still looks ok.
-
Thank Ellis, but that's not the issue. I simply want to resize that POW shot -- which btw, is printable in the postcard size -- and cannot do it w/o Brian's help. When I posted it, I knew much less about digital printing/posting & was hardly aware people can take it w/o asking. Telling me to put up doesn't help.

I am reposting links, sorry about it. <p><a href="http://www.dalmaru.com/cgi-bin/spboard/board.cgi?id=gallery&action=view&gul=120&page=1&go_cnt=0&category=Winter"> www.dalmaru.com</a><p>

I was playing around with my web site, checking links etc. and found
my photography posted on several web sites. In each case, the photo
was downloaded straight from the photo.net gallery. Neither site
had my permission to do so. One of them encourages downloads. There
are many more photogs on these websites, most of them downloaded
directly from photo.net. I am upset although I realize it is a
common problem. I am not sure about the policy here on the
photo.net, but Brian, I?d like to ask you for a chance to repost my
Snowstorm at 72 dpi. <br>

See today's <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9156612/">Tony Zambado </a> report on the Convention Center in New Orleans. We sent thousands of people, heavy equipment, planes, ships, food, water, medicine & doctors, engineers etc. to places as remote as Afghanistan or to Iraq but we are not able to help our own people?
-
that's a silly thing to say, David. As much as I'd like to get my hands dirty, I'm the last person you need down there right now. And yes, I sent the money already.
-
I don't buy it, Olivier -- all the white folks got out. And the ones left behind are black, old, sick and poor. It's a shame.
-
I am glued to the TV news and growing angry. The coverage is pathetic -- they mainly show looting and personal stories. Nobody is asking tough questions and clearly, help is getting there late! Only now Larry King asked if there was more we could have done before Katrina hit the Gulf. New Orleans and Louisiana lef their poor, old, sick and disabled behind. Did you see the pictures? Almost all the people left behind are black Americans. And nobody asks if there was any transportation provided for these who couldn't afford to get out? Were there any destinations with shelters listed for those who had no resources to afford a hotel or no family to take them in. If the evacuation was mandatory, why nobody enforced it? How could 80 year old, lonely, sick woman get out on her own? They knew days ahead this is going to be the biggest hurricane ever. Are we a third world country? I'm sorry but I am so angry right now.
Here are some photographs from Washington Post -- click on <a href ="http://www.washingtonpost.com/"> the image </a>to get to the gallery.

thanks everyone, again. we should do it more often :0)
-
Turbinenbraeu? No, never tried it. It does sounds like a good name, for a submarine ... OK ... I think I should stop teasing you. Oktoberfest in Munich -- yeah, that tops any beer anywhere. In fact, I tried to relocate to Munich in 1986 for the very reason but was utterly misunderstood by the German government. Oh well, life goes on. I adjusted to local breweries. Thank you plenty for your participation in the contest.
-
I don't know what to do about you, Belle ... sigh. Maybe I could make you post some more pictures in our next contest :0)
-
uhmm, thank you Lutz but it can't be your country because you guys don't make drinkable beer, maybe Praha :0)?
-
yes, an awesome shot Bruce. I updated the gallery. Good nite, all.
-
6th street bridge isn't my, Rob. BTW, to refresh your memories, I put together a <a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/index.html"> gallery </a>.
-
hi, Peter. thought you bailed out. Yes, many great entries here.I will update the gallery tomorrow cause right now I can't see anything anmore, heh.
-
sorry, the comment for Belle was in fact meant for Clay (tired here). Belle's portrait -- the angle you've chosen made it for me.
-
OK ... tough decisions but here are my most favorites.<br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Ricardo%20Yamamoto.html"> Ricardo Yamamoto</a><br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Roland_Shmid4.html"> Roland Shmid</a><br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Belle_Deux.html">Belle Deux</a><br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Clay_Harmon4.html">Clay Harmon</a><br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Beau3.html">Beau</a><br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Al_Kaplan.html">Al Kaplan</a><br>
<a href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/slides/Charles_Yu.html">Charles Yu</a></br>
To be honest I should say that I jumped when I saw Ricardo's shot -- I wish it was mine. Also, Roland's photography, my goodness I have to yet get there. They both do sort of photography I love -- a mix of documentary and PJ. Thank you for sharing with us. And Charles Yu, your photograph grabbed me, still not sure why but I think its innocence attracted me. Al -- el diablo's quintessential portrait, a must in your series. Beau -- I always loved that one. And Belle -- just awesome B&W (how did you tone it). There are many more that I found interesting but I'm already up to six so thank you all very much.
-
Your welcome, Manfred.

I'd like to thank everyone for an astonishing participation -- you
rock! Since this project supposed be a contest, sort of, I am asking
you to pick your favorite photographs/photographers. I hope it won't
be too much to ask a short comment together with a name of your
favorite photograher(s)and leave it here, on this thread (and I hope
there won't be any good bokeh/bad bokeh related choices because good
photography clearly isn't about bokeh; sorry, i just had to say
it :o).
<br><br>The contest closes tonite at 10 PM (US Eastern Coast time).
I have to say that, at this point, I wouldn't know which is my
favorite entry/author, there are so many good, great and excellent
photographs here. <br><br>
I will have our <a
href="http://mariaszulc.net/LeicaContest/index.html"> <b>digital
gallery </b></a> up for as long as needed -- all seems to be working
fine now, including the slide show. </br>

Al you don't have to shoot at night to make your selfportraits look dark, heh. Your first post is scary, babe.
