i've experienced the same problem.. at the cost of most of my newborn's pictures. man was i upset. but then i read a little closer into the handbook. make sure you're no closer (physically) to your subject than 1 meter in order to focus accuratley. then if you need to get a little closer, zoom in. careful that you don't cut off the heads due to the parallax of the camera. remember,you're not focusing through the lens since this is a rangefinder camera. also the 1meter focus block will be steady. if it's ever blinking, then refocus and/or move back a little until the number is solid. also may want to do a sanity check. if you're trying to focus on something that is close to you and the meter reads infinity, then you're definitely out of focus. it's tricky at first but the results are great. i primarily use my fuji for weddings and can't afford to miss one shot. luckily, i haven't. good luck.
