  1. I too love this camera. I have not found any use whatsoever for the built in flash however. My camera is mounted on a Stroboframe with the new Metz 54Mz3. In order to achieve the fill flash you're looking for, I would recommend using a light meter for your ambient, then add fill flash from another flash 1 to 2 stops under. I get really nice results doing this for weddings. I also have a Pocket Wizard on the hot shoe to trigger off my Photogenics for fill in dark reception halls and churches. Love the camera also because it is really lightweight.
  2. i've experienced the same problem.. at the cost of most of my newborn's pictures. man was i upset. but then i read a little closer into the handbook. make sure you're no closer (physically) to your subject than 1 meter in order to focus accuratley. then if you need to get a little closer, zoom in. careful that you don't cut off the heads due to the parallax of the camera. remember, you're not focusing through the lens since this is a rangefinder camera. also the 1meter focus block will be steady. if it's ever blinking, then refocus and/or move back a little until the number is solid. also may want to do a sanity check. if you're trying to focus on something that is close to you and the meter reads infinity, then you're definitely out of focus. it's tricky at first but the results are great. i primarily use my fuji for weddings and can't afford to miss one shot. luckily, i haven't. good luck.
