Had both and the AF was better. Better contrast which is part of our perception of sharpness! The sharpest lense I have next to my 35 f/1.4 ais and my 200 mm f/2

This is why Nikon went with the DX format.

Yes for what usage?

The problem is that below 85mm the Canon full frames are not sharp in the corners. It is a
problem for everyone. Once you crop out the unsharp area you are very close to the DX
format. Hmmmm? Until someone figures out how to make a ff wider lens sharp in the
corners, Nikon is going to stay with the DX format. The DX lenses aren't even sharp in the
corners.
The 12-24 sucks up to f8 in sharpness and CA.
If Nikon figures it out you will have FF once again. They know having all the awesome older
lenses above 50mm out there will be their edge.

I have used several Nikon 12-24mm zoom several times out of necessity .I bought one and
returned it. Not a sharp lense in my opinion. CA was way high and it lacked real punch for
me.
I heard another wider DX zoom was on it's way but?
Anyone know about it?

Laurie,
I am sorry to hear about your mishap but I need to one up you on this one. I was in
Ethiopia a month ago. We were in the miles from civilization about 15 hours of dirt roads
by bus and 5 hours by horse in an area called Beta Gadet when the saddle on my horse
broke. I had my D2x on my back in a Tamarack backpack with a total of 60lbs of gear. I
went down very hard separating my right shoulder. But the Nikon lived up to it's
reputation once again. They put it on a separate horse for the remaining 8 hours. I gave
one of the horse wranglers a plastic bag to cover it but he decided to put it in his pocket
for later. It rained cat and dogs.
When I finally met up with the stuff it was not looking too good. But it all survived after a
day
of drying out I was back on the saddle. It wasn't as productive of an assignment as it
could have been with
one arm out of commission and all , but I got some great images and awesome memories.

Hi.
I just returned from Ethiopia and brought a brand new D2X (2) days before
leaving and took it.. I usually bring film and a film camera just in case but no
more. D2X on raw is better than film scanned on a drum. No more hassling
the film and xray machines. Awesome camera. Don't waste time with the jpqs.
Even the highest quality doesn't come close to the raw. Besides being 8 bit
sucks. I got throw off a horse separated my shoulder in a very remote region
near Beta Gadet and had to put my 60 lb. camera backpack on another horse.
The rain came down so hard it washed off the protective trash bag. The
camera got wet. But after a day of drying out it worked fine. You need to figure
the basic settings out and stick with them. I am an old school manual focus
puller guy and that saved me alot of grief since the options in AF are
mindblowing. Bring several cards at least 2 gig each you will use them up
very fast. The highlight feature is awesome once you figure it out. I finally
started using it near the end of my trip and the exposures were dead on after
that. Good luck.

I am selling a Leica R3 MOT in Excellent condition. with 2 excellent lenses. A
Leitz Canada Summicron-R 90mm F2 and a Leitz Wetzler Elmarit-R 28mm
F2.8 lens. Both in perfect shape. The 28mm has the Leitz lense shade. I was
told both lenses are set up to couple up to a R5 camera.
The 28mm has a leather case of it's own. The camera has the Leica leather
case in average condition.
Could someone help me get an idea of a good price to sell this stuff? It
belongs to a freinds 80 year old Dad. I have never owned Leica. Please be
fair.
Tough choice deciding between diff. Nikon 80-200 lenses

If you always use auto focus go two ring faster focus.
But if you like to manuel pick off the focus. the push pull is beeter.
You can zero in on the focal range and framing and focus in one swipe. Not for the faint heated but the pro can nail it all at one time.
On the 2 ring you are back and forth.
Upside on the 2 ring is that the lens zoom does creep when look down or up!
