Sorry guys, but I think breaking the rule of thirds in this picture is what actually makes it work. The static but moody sky balances the movement in the lower half of the frame. The warmed up sepia like version doesn't do it for me. Thanks for the feedback!
  1. I think it would be more effective if you were on the pier with water in the foreground. You could argue that the pier frames the scene to some extent, but my preference would be water. Any chance to go back and shoot it again?

Unfortunately I only had one night in Paris, so I was at the Eiffel

tower for the blue hour. I still like the reflection here and will

get here a little earlier if I am in Paris again in the summer.

    Moody Sky

Here is the colour version. There was actually a little more shadow detail, but I have adjusted the levels to put the emphasis on the sky as in the mono version. Does nothing for me in colour!

This was nothing special on the slide, but I was pleasantly surprised

when I played with the colour channels in mono.

    Thanks for any ratings/comments.

You have some excellent portraits in your portfolio Byron, but this one does'nt work for me. I gave you FOUR for orginality, but to me the flare does not add to the aesthetics!! I still can't see what's wrong with this Chinatown picture - it's a bit travel guide/brochure style, but I don't think it's that bad!

I had been looking for this type of shot for a while and while away

for the weekend though I had blown it as I had forgotten a neutral

gray filter. I also could'nt find a location with anything else as a

focal point. Luckily, the weather got a little cloudy giving me a low

enough light level and a moody sky. I think it works, even with the

    forbidden central horizon?

I shot this from the hip and although not totally sharp, I was

    pleasantly surprised by the result.

Would love to hear any feedback.

    Action in Harlem!

On visiting the cathedral of St. John the Divine in Harlem, we came

across a bus that had caught fire! The look on the face of the little

boy is the only thing that made me shoot a few frames.

Jennifer, Thanks for the feedback, although it's a bit heavy to read on a Sunday morning!

I do not make a living out of photography, so actually I can shoot when and what I like, which is the beauty of being an amateur. Sure I dream of making a living out of a hobby, but there is always the fear that it then also becomes just a job. Helping people or shooting to please other people is a nice idea, maybe something for me for the future.

I like to hear the feedback of other people, which is why I post my pictures here, and if others like the images, that makes me happy.

To be famous is not one of my aspirations (when I am alive or dead), so if pictures pile up or get thrown out, so be it. At least I got enjoyment out of taking the pictures and maybe it kept me a little saner, or at the very least, I got some fresh air, met other people and saw some nice places.
