  1. I hold that the indirect light in Venice makes everything beautiful --

my wife holds that not all in Venice is beautiful, and she thinks

this image ugly (I just think it's somber). All in the eye of the

beholder, I guess. Very minimal PS for levels and curves.

  2. Desaturated in PS7 (with channel mixer), some work in curves to help

contrast, then a super new plug-in called Focus Magic instead of

unsharp mask (www.focusmagic.com). The plug-in is great for fixing

the 'softness' of my Nikon Super COOLscan 2000 scans, which have

always been soft. Original image scanned at 2700 dpi, then resized

post-process to 800 tall in PS.

    Burning Shoes 2

Part of a series (see the folder). After I finished my formal

orthopaedic training, I felt a need to give my well-worn operating

room shoes a ceremonial burial -- fire first.

Would be even more powerful if the contrast between the tombstones and the grass was increased, while keeping the softness of the overall image.

    Tree in Bryce

I like the juxtaposition of the tree and the rock. When I was in Bryce, I was blown away by the color of the rock, but did not look to compare to ordinary things. The exposure for the background is nice, but I would dodge the tree some so we can see more of its texture.
