All,
I am going to charter a helicoptor on the big island next month for
the sole purpose of taking aerial shots of cool stuff.
My thinking is to spend time at the volcano (duh!) and Mauna Kea. I
am told that the Hughes 500D can deal w/ the altitude.
My goal is to produce unusual/unreal images of things truly unique to
hawaii.
So my questions:
- what other sites should be considered "musts"?
- any coptor companies to seek out (or avoid) -- currently working w/
Tropical
FWIW, I will be shooting medium format primarily, but will have a
35mm along just in case. Most likely velvia pushed 1 stop.
Also, I have read the outstanding posts here (and referenced here)
about aerial photography.
Finally, I *do* have "The Big Island Revealed" which I learned about
in these forums.
Thank you all.
Regards,
Chas.

Brian,
Thanks. It's already on its way from amazon.

All,
I'll be photographing the Big Island w/a Hassy 503 and would
appreciate recommendations on color film. I've probably going to be
shooting some dusky shots, and therefore need relatively fast film,
but I don't want to compromise on grain etc.
BTW, there is a really fantastic post about photo's in hawaii
generally which has been quite helpful to me:

Thanks.

Let's Revisit MF Scanning
in Medium Format
Posted
All,
The threads on MF scanning that I've found are pretty dated; I'm
looking for hints before I take the plunge.
Intended usage:
- scanning MF slides (velvia)
- using a wintel box
- intended for web publication, and printing (8x10 max probably)
- $3000 is about as much as I will spend
Specific questions:
- does anybody have feedback on the nikon coolscan 8000?
- is it true that flatbed scanners are horrible for slides?
- what Y2K+ scanner is making you happy?
Thanks.
Regards,
Chas.
